A) PHONECALL: To everyone

[For those who have had contact with him, Tieria is usually a pretty abrasive person, speaking with a constant tone of authority to his voice. But today, there's definitely something softer and uncertain about his words, and he almost sounds like another person.]... I was told that today is a day to celebrate mothers. ( Read more... )

[Walking down the street is a small blue haired albino girl who will just stare at Tieria playing in the dirt]

"Do you need help with that?"

[Hey now, he isn't playing. He looks at her with a frown when he notices her staring, but oddly enough doesn't yell at her for it. For some reason, he just can't bring himself to be a hardass today.]

I'm sure I can figure this gardening business out. [Despite all signs pointing to the contrary.]

"I can probably call up a data file on it if you need help."

[And that instantly interests him, dissolving any hesitation he might have.]

You have access to proper data? [In his excitement, he forgot for a moment that he was speaking to a lady, and quickly composes himself.] That is, if it wouldn't be a burden to you.

"Omoikane... Gardening information please."

[A 24 inch panel pops into being in front of her, its obviously done through some sort of holo projector somewhere, and it starts showing several videos on gardening methods]

[If he weren't being affected by Mother's Day, he'd be bitterly envious towards Ruri and the connection she has with Omoikane. Instead, he only the floating screens to skim over their content, a somewaht wistful expression on his face. This level of technology is obviously something not only familiar to him, but comfortingly.]

This is more than adequate. [Which pretty much translate to, "thank you."] Omoikane is not a computing model I'm familiar with; how did you get it past Mayfield's restrictions?

"After a time, the town sometimes returns things to us. Things from home that is. It took several months, but finally they returned Omoikane to me."

"I think he was named after the Japanese spirit of wisdom... Originally he was the battle computer for the Battleship Nadesico, so the model isn't standard."

I see. There was a pamphlet detailing information about Mayfield, and the recovery of items was mentioned, but I haven't been able to verify how much of it is accurate. At least this information is real. [Which was both relieving and maybe a little disappointing; that he wasn't going to be stuck this way forever was good, but there were some things he was glad that the town had left behind.]

A battleship? Of course; something this sophisticated couldn't be used for more practical or peaceful purposes, could it. Humanity must still be at war where you're from.

"Originally the Nadesico was designed for policing actions but... Mankind is a violent animal, I'm not certain they're capable of not warring."

They have to be capable of it. If they just tried... Maybe not in this generation, or the next, but if humanity was truly united they wouldn't have a reason to fight anymore.

"I'm... Maybe too much of a cynic to agree. That's why I prefer the company of computers to my fellow humans frequently. I've seen a lot of very stupid things done."

I do, too. [It's weird meeting another person so like himself; at this point, it's hard to tell what's caused by the Mother's Day event and what's him softening to a kindred spirit.]

No, that's what I used to think.. Humans are stupid and wasteful, and they only seem capable of mistakes. Even though I was born to help guide them, I always resented them. But... I met some that are good people. Because of them, I was able to finally see the hope in mankind. Perhaps, if you could meet them, too, you would see it as well.

"See, I was engineered to keep a computer company. I've seen good people, I was adopted by good people. They died in a horrible act of stupidity. I don't hold any malice against people, some of my best friends are people. I just am not especially hopeful."

Perhaps we'll see a day where I can prove you wrong, assuming you were made with longevity in mind.

"Perhaps, and I'm just an ordinary girl. All be it one with extencive genetic modifications and nanotreatments, but, my life is as long as any one else's.

[She shrugs]

[He's genuinely disappointed, glancing away from her with a distant look on his face.] How extensive was the nanotreament? If you have nanomachines in your body, surely it can counter the body's cell degradation and extend your lifespan.
