For a meal at home, Setsuna rarely exceeded 20 dollars on grocery expenses.
To prepare a simple meal for himself, Setsuna needed an hour at most.
To finish the meal, Setsuna usually required 10 minutes.
He rarely baked cakes, because the process took too long, and he did not particularly enjoy eating them. Baking was too much hassle.
"Setsuna-"
He finally looked up from the bowl, and stopped mixing, gazing curiously at Marina.
"Try to be gentle when you're beating the ingredients," she smiled as she took the bowl from him, demonstrating what she meant.
"Gentle?" his sharp auburn eyes observed her keenly, "Why?"
"It's so that you won't spill the mixture," she handed the bowl back to him, bright blue eyes meeting his, "And so that when people eat the cake that you bake, they will be able to feel the love and care that you've put into baking the cake."
"...love," the idea seemed strange, even a little silly to him, but as he gazed back at Marina and focused on her earnest, kindly smile, he could not help but want to do as what she had told him. He looked back down at the half-blended mixture again, and started beating it again, this time using slightly less force.
"Yes," Marina guided patiently, taking the mixture that she herself had been working on, slowly beating it as well, "Gently, gently! Just like that. Gorogorogorogoro..."
"...gorogoro...?" his eyebrows rose just barely.
Far from being embarrassed that she was using baby language with the Meister, Marina nodded her head with an encouraging smile, slowly mixing the ingredients in time with her soft murmur, "Gorogorogorogoro..."
Turning his attention back to the mixture once more, Setsuna followed the princess's lead, keeping in time with her whispers as he beat the mixture. Very soon, he subconsciously began to recite with Marina, "Gorogoro..."
Setsuna had never particularly minded waiting for the cake to be baked, but this time when the cake mixtures were set into the oven, the cakes seemed to take longer than usual to be ready to be served. He found himself entering the kitchen more often than usual to check on the cakes and when he was finally allowed to sample a piece of the cakes they had made together, he enjoyed them so much that he finished off three slices.
"When can we bake again?"
Marina looked up in surprise at the Meister's inquiry, and smiled as she recognised that look of enthusiasm in his eyes, "Whenever you like, Setsuna."
"Tomorrow," he replied instantly, blinking in curiosity as Marina laughed at his eagerness. Even if he did not fully understand Marina's concept of love in preparing food, he did enjoy cooking and spending time with her. There was so much more he could learn from her.
