Hey! I was told you were the man to contact about joining up with the police force here. How can I do that?

Yes, hello. If you were sent my way, you must already know who I am, but I'm Minato Arisato.

It isn't difficult. First, what is your name and can you tell me what sort of experience you have?

Lieutenant Colonel Maes Hughes, sir! Back home I was head of investigation, and I have field work to back it up.

I see. Some things may be different from one world to the next, so would you mind telling me what sort of duties you had as head of investigation?

Well, a lot of it was desk work: looking up information, arranging court cases, and assisting my fellow officers. Like I said, there was field work, too, like transporting criminals and checking out crime scenes.

Mm. We may need help with field work more than anything else, if you wouldn't mind. If there were any particular jobs you were looking for in joining us, you can let me know of them.

...I have to ask you a few more questions.

I'd like to know how you feel about officers taking matters into their own hands when dealing with criminals. Do you feel like situations like that can be justified, and for what reasons if you do.

I'm just looking to help out--field work is fine by me.

Hmm... that's a good question.

Well, an officer's main job is to protect the people as best he can. So long as he does his duty without causing harm or betraying the law, he shouldn't be too badly punished.

god, you made him TALK. purgatory_maren June 5 2009, 02:20:36 UTC
Mm. I see. And what of personal vendettas? Killing or punishing a suspect personally rather than bringing them directly to the station. Do you feel that sometimes an officer is justified in doing this, or that they should keep their duty in mind? And do you feel an officer should be punished for this?

I have to tell you, we had an incident with an officer in the past, who decided to take matters into his own hands. He released a murderer, took him someplace where they could be alone and then murdered him. As people return to life here, the murderer was revived in the hospital and was never caught. Now he's free because he was dealt a punishment without the consent of the police force. I do not take situations such as officers taking things personally lightly.

To shorten all of this, are you capable of keeping your personal feelings, opinions, and what you may view as justice separate from your duty as a police officer, and follow our rules and laws?

Oh? People come back to life here? I didn't know that... geez, doesn't sound like the guy wasn't thinking to sharply, then.

Unless my life were at stake directly, I wouldn't do something so hasty or irrational. Work is work, and shouldn't cross paths with personal feelings.

...

[Minato gives that some thought, remaining silent for an almost painfully long time.]

Okay. Welcome to the police force. If you wouldn't mind stopping by the police station in the next couple of days, I'll fill you in on all of our rules. Be sure that you also familiarize yourself with the laws that we have here in the city, which can be found in Mr. Phoenix Wright's entries.
