I just finished shredding thirteen years worth of personal documents, including some historical gems like:
- the pay stubs from my first job in Washington State in 1996 (plus every pay stub from every job after that)
- car insurance statements for my first car that I haven't had since 1998
- bank statements from my old Reno First Interstate Bank checking account
- financial aid forms for attending Seattle Central in 1997
- a form telling me I got a raise at one of my old jobs from $5.50 an hour to $6.50
- gas station receipts from when gas was under $2.00
It took two days to shred everything. I feel like a big weight has been lifted from my shoulders. I've just culled a giant part of my checkered pack rat past, plus I never have to cart this stuff around again should I have to move.
