Clarification, Gods, and RP.ignis_procellaDecember 20 2009, 21:25:59 UTC
On clarification: My major concern is with rules and regulations on moving up to the upper realm. I personally had some issues back when I first joined about moving up. They were of course addressed, but it left Axel stranded in the lower levels for an extra two-three months. I don't believe it was very clear for the most part that one could visit the upper levels to find a job, and work said job. It would be nice to see an expanded rule/expectation set listed in the Information.
Gods: No offense to the current NPCs, but they just seem overly apathetic and thus not very useful in my opinion to the games continuation. We definitely need to see a God who is interested highly in the punishment of our characters. You know ... a DEVIL ... or a devil like NPC. I think having an a character hell bent on our pain around would be pleasant to see, and more appropriate than the ones we have currently. :(
RP: And this has always been a slight peeve of mine, I like to RP ... prose/paragraph. More often than not here in Purgatory most people just post and then assume things are going on ( maybe they talk out the results ooc of character ) and end up posting later that they completed some task. I never see official log posts go up hardly ever. Now I'm fail here, because work made me pick up some extra management shifts for the Alma ball log, and I was SUPER excited about posting in it. This is my onl day off until New Years, but OMG PLEASE MORE OFFICAL RP POSTS IN THE FUTURE WOULD MAKE ME SO GOD DAMN HAPPY! :D
Ok, I'm done posting my walls of text. I'm also open for discussing any of these points in further context and helping out in the future. I know I don't really chat with most of the players in the chat or anything, so I really don't want to come off as being rude. I like this game, and these are just some opinions I wanted to share and things I'd love to see added to make purgatory more fun.
This is about to be long.alchemyxfreakDecember 21 2009, 04:31:05 UTC
Before talking to the other mods about your suggestions and points, I'd like to address a few things myself.
For starters - I will say that a number of your concerns are ones that I do hold myself, but having been the newest member of the mod team at the time, I left a lot of things as they were - as players are used to them and/or as the other mods preferred them, simply because that was just how things were when I joined up. I'm not going to get into those until I've had a chance to discuss with the other mods, and see what they'd be interested in doing.
Which leads me to another point I'd like to mention. I realize that you're not a 'new' member by many standards anymore, but you are relatively new compared to a large number of Purg members that have watched it undergo changes from their first day here. What you may or may not realize, a knowledge that I take for granted from the majority of our player base, is that we are not the original mods. Purg is an inherited game, passed on to different people and we have had to work with what we are handed. A sudden drastic change, like completely re-vamping the lower level might have been pretty shell-shocking to the majority of the player base, just because it has been that way pretty much since it's creation before most of us were even in the game. Players have continuously voted that they do not want a severe setup change, and changing things too completely would make the game an entirely new game in itself - which I'm not personally all right doing, unless that's what the players want.
I am working on, and have been working on, updating the FAQ - removing things that no longer apply, changing things that need upgrading and adding things that should be there which aren't. Considering you don't socialize in chat and I try to keep my personal issues out of the game, I'm not sure whether or not you realize this - but the changes being made stopped because of my own personal life. I've had a lot of work related issues and sickness and death since April, and it just wasn't on my mind to tidy up Purg, dealing with all of that. Point being, tidying up the rules and information, and organizing the game is in the works - and will be resuming full force shortly.
I'm sorry that there was confusion for you, but the mods are always available on AIM or by e-mail, if there's something you want to clear up in a timely manner. Our contact information can be found not only on the Taken List but in the Purg profile, for easy access, because there's no way to assure everything is 100% clear to everyone who reads it.
On NPCs and Logging:
NPCs are a tricky subject, because there are pro's and con's to having active NPCs and pro's and con's to having inactive NPCs but- Purg has had both and dealt with complaints for both, so this was a new angle we were trying, to see if it worked better. Leah hasn't even made her NPC yet, so we'll see what kind of changes we'd be interested in making when we do get together to discuss it. For logging, you can still post logs on your own, there's no reason to wait for us - it has just become less and less popular over time in game, but if players are still interested they're more than welcome to do it on their own. Uh, officially, mod plot log related stuff, I do see increasing in the future, if the game stays open, but- that again, needs to be discussed with the other mods, before I can say one way or another so.... Logs and NPCs I'll get to later, when I can speak to the other mods - as well as everything else in this post, so everything will be addressed again from all of us, but the last thing I would really like to point out myself, is this.
Realism is an iffy subject. Your character is not stranded on a deserted island, they're in an underworld of sorts - they are neither truly alive nor truly dead, although they can die, they do respawn - and there are a number of ailments and natural physical reactions that can not happen in Purgatorium. On top of the fact that residents on the Lower Level can improvise and request help from friends and aquaintances above - Purg is a magical place, so I imagine the environment itself would change things, there. Simply put, if characters were dying every few days or few weeks, it would get old pretty fast. But again, we are working with what has been handed to us, and what the players did not want to see change.
So, I hope that addressed some of your points, and feel free to reply with anything else you might think of - because we will be discussing everything, and as I said this so far has basically just been my view of things. And even that, not completely.
