Leon stood there awkwardly for a moment, still not used to the idea of Aerith drawing comfort from him, or from him providing any form of comfort. His hand rested on her shoulder for a moment before he bent to hug her more solidly. He could get used to this, easily, though the erratic thumping of his heart gave him an odd feeling. After all, he hadn't felt it in a long time.

Rinoa.

But still, if he could, he would take Aerith home with him... but that wasn't an option when she already existed in his world. He didn't know what exactly to say except pet her hair, thinking.

"... I'm sorry," he said after a moment. "I would bring you, if I could."

There had been Zack and Namine, Leon knew, that had gone home together though Namine was from his world and Zack was from Aerith's. But that same happy ending couldn't be reached with them, could it? There was simply no escape. But he had promised her a happy ending, and he would give it to her.

"But we're not leaving." And he bent his head to press his forehead against hers, noses brushing against each other. "I'm with you."

She knew well enough to know that wasn't true. She hadn't been given the option last time, she had simply been ordered to return home. But those were different gods, but even still, they had been easier to work with than Thylas. Forcing a half smile on to her face, she nodded, their noses bumping once again. "I'll speak to Thylas." She was decided on that, and she made it her top priority.

But she pushed the thoughts of leaving and staying, and the fears that went along with those things out of her mind, so she could focus entirely on the moment she was currently experiencing. "I'm sorry." She apologized, ashamed for having brought down the mood. "We both deserve to be happy. Especially you. I shouldn't talk about such silly things, should I?" Quickly stealing a kiss, she looked up at him, before leaning over and looking past him and into the forest.

"Do you want to keep walking, or are you ready to call it a night?"

Leon didn't know about deserving anything--he couldn't even protect his home-world initially, after all--but he nodded. If he had any hand in this, he wouldn't let himself go home without Aerith, especially without fulfilling his promise. He had come half-way now, and he intended to finish what he had started. There was something pleasant about starting over with someone, something he hadn't experienced even with Rinoa, and he found himself looking forward to going home and falling asleep next to Aerith, seeing her face first thing in the morning.

He didn't want to think about leaving and staying, no matter how real the options were: to him, it wasn't possible any more, even if they were. He wouldn't leave. He wouldn't; not this time. Because this time, he didn't think he could write letters to Aerith and wait for a reply, especially when they weren't from the same world. And he could never find her, with all the doors locked.

"What do you want?" he asked casually, moving a hand into her hair to play with the long curls reaching past her shoulders. "I have work later."

"I just want to spend time with you." She giggled softly, bowing her head. "I don't care where we are. Let's just head back to the house and sit around. And if Kairi isn't there, then I might steal a few kisses before you have to leave." After all, him actually admitting his feelings entitled her to grant him with some displays of affection. She just figured he would rather said displays be more private instead of public.

"The next day you have off, we should go shopping. I need a new dress, and you probably need a couple of new shirts." She had an entire week off, and planned on doing some very late spring cleaning over the next few days. She would find more firewood so she could actually use their stove to cook, and she would take Kairi to the general store to get some treats that they normally didn't get to have.

"I think that we should treat ourselves to a little something this week. We've been saving for so long now, don't you think?"

Leon shifted his weight, glancing down at Aerith before reaching to take her hand and beginning to walk towards the direction of their home. It was funny, how the order of things had worked out for them: living together first, then sleeping together, and then finally feelings had emerged (on his side, at least). Usually, wasn't it in some other order? But this wasn't bad, he decided; there was nothing wrong about the way they had done things.

And he wouldn't mind a few stolen kisses.

"What do you want to buy?" he asked casually; Leon had been a tad stingy with money, partially because he didn't want to do anything wasteful. They had plenty already, so it didn't seem to occur to him that things could be improved.
