Summary: As Duke requested, he is personally meeting with Jenova to return her cells back to her. Kadaj will be the one escorting him there. It seems as if there are other ideas people have in mind, though.
It was a law for Kadaj that whatever Mother said and wanted was done. But he didn't like this. Didn't like how a mere human had blatantly demanded to see her, to have Mother's presence grace him. Didn't like Duke's sad attempts to pull all the strings. Weak strings. He would cut them away when he had to. Kadaj was wary, and he didn't trust the man for a second. He was poised, ready to take him out the first chance the Turk gave him a reason to.
But Mother had accepted Duke's offer.
Duke. He was a nuisance, but nothing more. That had been true in the past, but now Kadaj wasn't so sure. He couldn't quite shake off the feeling that something would go wrong. Humans didn't just throw themselves at Mother in offering to do whatever whe wished, appealing a thought as it was. What did he want, to have outright betrayed his people in such a manner? Silently scoffing at his own insecurity, he fiercely shook his head. With him there, and of course Mother, whatever Duke tried could be taken care of when the time came. It wouldn't matter. He would get what was coming to him. He should have at least been grateful that Mother was getting back what had been stolen from her. Duke wouldn't lie about that too, would he? No...even a human wouldn't be that stupid, when Mother and even he could sense if he would have what he promised to.
Continuing on in that deceivingly casual stroll, the remnant finally stopped when his ears picked up the faint murmur of water. If it were to go right, Duke would be waiting, alone more importantly for that matter, enabling Kadaj with an easier chance to restrain the Turk enough and take his weapons before he led him to her place of choice.
He smirked as his hand wrapped around the blindfold, a slightly childish sense of sadistic glee felt at the opportunity to rough the guy up a little...and exact his revenge. Time to get back for all those times he bit his ego, the time he implied him to be pretty of all the sickening things. Mother was pretty, so perhaps he shouldn't have taken it as such an insult. The fact still was though, that it had come from him. And Kadaj didn't like this Duke. He didn't like anyone who wasn't Mother or Yazoo and Loz, and he would take any chance he got to make their lives miserable.
After walking a little further, Kadaj stopped and perched himself where he would be able to have a good surveying of the area. If things were to go wrong, then... This would probably be some elaborate trap, for what reasons the remnant couldn't even guess. They should have known by now, that trying to attack he or his brothers, if even alone, would be a vain effort. They were beginning to learn, weren't they? Finally. This place belonged to Mother from the start. Every place rightfully did. They had been blind to it, carrying on with their insignificant, dreadfully boring lives. If sorting out through such troublesome, meaningless things could even be considered much of a life. Now though, now they were finally being to see, just who was in control here. Just who would claim their blood for her own.
Not gods. Or, not these frauds that claimed to be the only ones in this place.
Mother was the only god.
Kadaj smiled openly, those words repeating in his mind. Mother was a master at this sort of thing, taking great care to cut away and crush every sense of will left in a person berfore she outright destroyed them. It was a plague to their minds, something that truly hollowed them away until nothing was left. Kadaj wasn't that skilled. He was too impulsive, too needy for just the pained aspect of torture. He would never be as good as Mother, but at least she seemed pleased with his work. Nothing mattered more than that, and Kadaj felt his ego soar due to the fact that it was him who kept Mother happy, he who had been serving her. Not him. And he hadn't even failed yet!
No, of course he wouldn't. What was he thinking? He was complete now. Better. At the very least, he would never betray her.
And he would protect her with all his spirit. With a slight tilt of his head, Kadaj blinked, and sighed dramatically, the anxiousness and confidence clashing and putting him on edge. "I wonder, maybe it's hiding. Just like the little rodent it is." There was no one to talk to, and his voice rang out. Clear, mocking, and spiteful. He lifted away from the wall, edging closer to the water while still keeping some distance. The leader of the trio kept the blindfold concealed. If that ended up not being enough, then he would just stab out his eyes. He didn't even bother to reach for Souba. This was a good place to be ambushed, with all the walls and houses and the whatnot. If he was, he would react quickly.
"Blind, little rodent..." How fitting for such a person. And then, with false concern, he added. "Did you go back on your word?"
