Claire was on her way toward the beach, her sword held in hand. She hadn't gotten in any practice with it in quite some time, and figured it was time to. She was already bad enough with using it, and didn't want to become completely useless with a blade. She had been hoping to get Adam to tag along, but she didn't think it was a good idea for her teacher to see how lazy she had gotten. So she was by herself, as much as she disliked being alone. Sometimes, it was beneficial to be by yourself. Like when you didn't want to embarrass yourself by swinging a sword around like an amateur.

As she made her way toward the edge of the city, she caught sight of a man she hadn't seen before. It was his long, silver hair that caught her attention, and she couldn't help but stare at it as she walked past him.

[ooc: I forgot to add before, that if Seph does want to kill her, he's more than free to. He just needs to cut off her head to keep her from regenerating. He can have fun trying to figure that one out. :p]

Things would have been simple -they would be peacefully passed by each other- if Sephiroth had only been in a better, more stable frame of mind. Something about the young, passerby lady resonated with the cells in his own body, but he doubted her infection. He knew his own kind--well, maybe he didn't really know or recognize those with Jenova as he'd very well forgotten her. But he did know and sense those with Eve's mitochondria, and this blonde girl was not tied to him by his 'mother'.

An offering... he decided. The god complex had already made a pact with his body and was taking advantage of the rebellious infected mitochondria to once again attempt the impossible: to become a god. The hero held on--he was going to fight that desire to become a god, even if he was without Schuldig. At the very least, he didn't want to so very quickly and easily give in. If he could turn this into a simple spar, the hero would win; if not, the girl would become yet another vain sacrifice ( ... )

Claire had become increasingly paranoid during her time in Purgatorium, but she really wasn't the type to be able to predict an attack. So it was a very good thing that her eyes were focused in on the man, her head turned, even as he drew his blade. She didn't think anything of it until he moved toward her swiftly, and when she realized what was happening, she acted on her first instinct ( ... )

Easy. Just a spar--a simple spar. Unfortunately, the once-hero already knew that even in a tiny tussle or a 'simple spar' he could very easily cause severe harm, and his mental conflict was an attempt to prevent that from happening. Not that he'd actually wanted to encounter anyone while in this dark and fallen mindset, but it was probably a whole lot safer this way than for him to have headed toward the city; at least the blonde was fighting back.

While she'd managed to retain her sense of humor, Sephiroth himself offered none; the man was quite sadly made of serious business. The former general showed not even the slightest degree of mercy in attacking. Lifting some tension from the sword, he suddenly pressed forward, weight leaning into the blade in an attempt to drive her downward or knock her over--she seemed small enough, after all. Regarding strength and power, he easily had the advantage.

Weak. Pathetic. Unworthy. A waste of his time--the faster he disposed of her, the earlier he'd arrive in the city to judge its populace. ( ... )
