Summary: Zack takes Cissnei home to tend to her after her day and a half in the abandoned school. She's out of sorts and borderline hysterical. Fun times.

She was vaguely aware of being carried home. Not in so much as to bother acknowledging any of the many voices she heard or the panicked tone to any of them. She recognized Elena and Val... distant memories. Distant voices and faces and times and places of so very long ago. Cissnei wanted to tell them to be quiet. Her head was so noisy already. Couldn't they just keep it down?

But the sound faded before too long, and she was left with nothing more than the sensation of familiar arms carrying her, and still she didn't dare to open her eyes. Bloodied hands reached for her, smeared across her skin, nails raking lines down her cheeks and tiny, child-like fingers grabbing her sleeves. More faces, contorted and misshapen, and Cissnei could do no more running. The last of her energy had been spent escaping that... creature.

The pale one with the hollowed holes in his head and the bloody mouth, nails that reached too close to her throat as he staggered toward her on boney, creaky legs. It was only due to its slow, clumsy movements that she'd managed to tear her way down the halls and to (relative) safety, hiding away in a closet in the basement, curling up as small as she could. But even then, the echoes of giggles and shrieks, howls and groans reverberated in her head, in her dreams, behind the backs of closed eyelids.

More than once or twice, Cissnei let out an audible noise close to a tired sob, turning her face to press it into the solid comfort of Zack's chest.

It wasn't until several hours later, in fresh clothes and within the comfort of her own bed that Cissnei woke. It was a quick process, wherein she'd drifted too far to sleep and her own nightmares flooded the recesses of her worn mind; had her bolting upright, legs kicking frantically at the blankets (hands, arms, howls, giggles) trying to drag her down. She screamed without realizing it, and continued to do so until she' found herself clutching at Zack and sobbing hysterically into his chest. That, too, lasted for a long while, most likely until she was too tired to cry anymore and the adrenaline rush faded. Her throat was raw, her eyes burned from crying, and had she been more herself, she might have thought about how terrible she looked. For now, though, it wasn't even on the list of things she could think of.

Finally, finally, she lay there silent and still save for the heaving of her chest with each breath, and her hands uncurled from where they'd been fisted in Zack's shirt so tightly it was a wonder she'd not torn fabric.

She didn't look up. Didn't look up, but opened lifted her head ever so slightly so that her voice would not come across as muffled.

"...You rescued me?"
