Tifa wasn't sure why she kept coming back here during her spare time. It's not like she ever did anything but sit there staring out across the empty water. She knew that she'd lost her memories, twice now, but she of course had no idea what they were. It had been a fear that had kept her from approaching Cloud, or Yuffie, or anyone else who had known her, and asking. What if she had forgotten something important ( ... )

Having wandered around the city and encountering so few, Sephiroth was always curious about what kind of inhabitants plagued Purgatorium, this place of punishment. Why hadn't he realized what this place was before that young boy told him? He found it quite odd that he couldn't remember knowing in the first place--perhaps he wasn't listening? No, he wasn't sure at all. But then there was another presence, a familiar one that he clearly recognized...

"The guide girl."

He stopped in his tracks and looked her over. Truthfully, he couldn't remember why he'd killed her; perhaps he owed her an apology... although that would be completely uncharacteristic of him, woudln't it?

His voice steady as usual, Sephiroth asked, "Are you working for ShinRa?"

"I have a name. It's Tifa. You could at least remember it!" Her brows furrowed upon her forehead, giving Sephiroth a small glare, even though that might not be the smartest of ideas. How nice, to be known as the guide girl. He could at least have remembered it, considering he had killed her.

The question though caught her off guard. Looking up at him, Tifa wondered what exactly he was about. The first time she met him, he charged and tried to kill her, and now he wasn't even doing anything of the sort, and why did he need to know that?

Her brain hovered between telling him where to shove it, and asking him what right he had to ask that. Rising, she crossed her arms over her chest, and looked off over his shoulder. With a slightly snide tone in her voice, the female responded. "Not that it's any of your business, but no, I don't."

"Ah, Tifa." His voice was bland, disinterested. "Very well, I'll be sure to address you properly from now on."

She was angry. Upset. What was he expecting? He did kill her, after all, and he could not for the life of him actually recall why. It was somewhat frustrating, but he wasn't going to make a show of it. Although his mind continued to dance around apologizing and explaining that perhaps he'd undergone a moment of blind rage... not that this was any more acceptable reason for killing her.

Even worse was that she didn't work for ShinRa, making Sephiroth realize that he'd killed an innocent in the process of going to destroy them. Nevertheless, he continued his interrogation. "I see. And the others -Cloud, Zack, Angeal... Genesis- work for ShinRa still, I'm assuming?"

The manner in which he stated her name left a bad taste within Tifa's mouth. Yet, why would she expect him to be any different. Being insane and killing people was a second nature to him, wasn't it? Then again, she did remember him coming to her village with Cloud and Zack, and he had been normal then, yet somewhere in the years that followed, he seemed to have changed, drastically.

What was this, twenty questions before I kill you? The fact that he wanted to know that sort of information meant that he was up to something, didn't it? Yet, it was always the same old story with him; yadda yadda, mother and the promised land. Though, looking back, he had been quiet, for she could not even recall seeing any sort of an entry on their journal system. Not that it meant Sephiroth was playing nice, since he probably considered kicking a puppy a nice thing to do.

"Isn't that strange... Not too sure why you expect an answer from me, so you might as well just get it over with, Sephiroth, but you should remember I won't go down without a fight."
