Ever since being killed by Karasu, Kakashi had (for the most part) either stayed put or went to work. There were too many things and people to deal with, and he wanted to close everyone -including Rikku- off so that he could think things through and hopefully sort them out. Other than going out for work and that one time he'd asked Rikku if she'd let him watch her bathe, he was pretty stationary in the junk yard ( ... )

Kunzite picked his way gingerly up the street, his attention roving from side to side with an ease that spoke of one used to watching their back. The Dark Kingdom hadn't exactly been a place where on let down their guard with youma (and the other Shitennou) wanting to move up a few spaces on the ladder. He would stop occasionally, inspecting some of the structures as if searching for something. Architecture wasn't his forte`, but Kunzite suspected that any building that might be a library or something would have a more stately look to it. A shrine would most likely have various decorations or religious symbols about it ( ... )

Tch. Must've gotten careless. Kakashi thought as there was a change in the man's behavior. So much for ninja stealth, but at least he wasn't completely discovered. The ninja stationed himself closer to the ruins, observing that the man had prepared to draw a weapon but actually refrained from doing so.

However, there was no need for Kakashi to attack the man. Remaining in his position, he examined the ruins--he hadn't come across this part of Purgatorium before. Then again, it wasn't like he was well-traveled. He mainly knew the junk yard and his place of work; then there was the river, the beach, places around Rikku's garage, and the clock tower that everyone could see. Oh, yeah--and the hospital, where he'd experienced his absolutely humiliating first death.

Still, his knowledge of the places in Purgatorium was limited. If he was going to follow the man now, he'd have to proceed further with caution.

[OOC; Kakashi will remain non-confrontational unless directly addressed. Otherwise, he'll just be following Kunzite around.]

Kunzite stayed silent for a time, watching and waiting. It was what did best. Finally, he shook his head and stepped back out into what little light managed to reach down here. Even the light had a filthy cast to it, sick and weak to Kunzite's eyes. Taking one last look behind him, Kunzite shook his head. Must have been his imagination ( ... )

Kakashi wondered what the other man had found that was of such interest. It seemed to be a piece of paper, but he couldn't quite make out the words from his distance. And as Kunzite continued further into the building, the darker it become. Kakashi pulled up his forehead protector to use sharingan; not that it would do him tremendous good, but at least it would increase his chances of remembering his surroundings as it enhanced photographic memory.

With that, he tried to pull closer without being seen, but it was a bit harder as they were proceeding further into the ruins. The building's passages were slimmer and not in particularly good condition, and it was already dark night outside, making it even darker and harder to see inside.

Then he heard the man say something to himself in a low voice. A human lighter... Hm. Had he run into yet another demon? At least this one didn't look like he was going to blow Kakashi to bits--more like he was too concerned with research and investigation to pay any mind to his follower ( ... )

Light spilling over his shoulder was indeed welcome, Kunzite blinking a few times as his eyes became used to it instead of the gloom he had been trying to peer through. The room the two of them stood in was a little different from those in most of the other ruined buildings. Water dripped and ran from above, moss overgrowing parts of the fallen stone and timber. With its ceiling mostly gone as well as two of the walls and part of the third, the entire building looked ready to fall at the least bit of urging. Splinters of decaying wood were all around, scattered with the bits of burnt paper and strips of rotting material that had once been floor to ceiling drapes or fine rugs. Only the barest patches of those remained, their designs covered with the slimy moss. A few tattered and burnt cards spilled from a shattered drawer at Kakashi's feet. What little that could be read off the cards appeared to be numbers along with a word or two, all of them alphabetically arranged ( ... )

"Hatake Kakashi." Rather than his usual drawling voice, he'd answered Kunzite in a firm voice. Well, weren't they off to a decent start? While he was at it, he continued, "What brings you to a place like this at this time of night?"

He moved the torch in front of himself and before Kunzite, silently offering it to the man. At this point, it became somewhat apparent that it wasn't magical flame.

Kunzite took the torch, watching the flames intently for a moment for any sign of it being anything other than it was. Finding nothing, he sighed more to himself than his new companion ( ... )

Kakashi patiently waited and listened to Kunzite's answer. "Ah, this definitely looks like something. Excuse me for stalking around after you, then--I'm concerned with finding some kind of escape from this place, even though it seems impossible. But the kind of information that you're searching for seems just as useful if not more useful than what I'm searching for." Regarding the ruins, he continued, "This does look like something, someplace carrying a wealth of information."

He took the torch back and held it over the darkness as Kunzite leapt into those depths and landed in some part of a sewage system if not just some gross and murky water that had gathered at some low point. Wanting to avoid the splash, he quickly made some sort of pulley device with trap wire and kunai before lowering himself into the water and handing Kunzite the torch. Upon reaching the water, he quickly reeled back the trap wire, leaving the kunai secured above them. Perhaps they could use it as a marker later.

"If there is a way to escape, then it might very well be down here somewhere. Someone who has been here had to keep a record of their activities, what they saw or figured out," Kunzite replied, hoping against hope that Zoisite had some sort of laundry system at home.

When the other man joined him, Kunzite was somewhat surprised. He hadn't been expecting Kakashi to come down into the water with him. The gods knew that he wouldn't have risked such. For all either of them knew, some sort of monster could be cruising beneath the cloudy water, just waiting to pull them under.

He was about to discourage help though, especially from someone who looked experienced with mechanical devices.

"Are you sure you want to be down here? I have no idea if some sort of beasts guards these."

Lifting the torch, Kunzite could see just at its edge cases of what looked to be books although most of them were in or just above the water. Who knew if any were still intact or not?

Kakashi shrugged. "Well, do you have any means of defense if something does attack us for being here?" He examined the walls and tried to peer through the water. "I'm quite used to tracking through muck and dirt anyway."

As Kunzite raised the torch to observe something, Kakashi also took a look and noticed the books in cases. "Want to see if they're still good?" He slowly and cautiously reached out for a book, taking its spine between his fingers and slowly easing it out.
