well i haven't updated this thing for a while and what i have to type isn't about me. this is just a highlight reel on upcoming movies that i think are going to be cool (or appear that way). the summer housed no blockbusters, no oscar-worthy epics, no mind-boggling thrillers. it did however house
Clerks II which was incredibly funny. Kevin Smith fans should not have been disappointed with his latest vulgar look at the mundane job market and strange relationships. other than that, not much impressed me, but coming this fall i definitely think that will change.
The Illusionist : for people who enjoy the great acting of Edward Norton, Paul Giamatti (fuck Lady in the Water) and a little magic
then i think this movie will be interesting. taking a look at a "illusionist" who is facing controversy and problems from the authorities
seems to be the concept of this film.
due out: August 18th, 2006
The Prestige : in keeping with the magic theme, Christopher Nolan (Batman Begins, Memento) has a new film coming this october
called The Prestige. starring Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Hugh Jackman and Scarlett Johansson in a story of 2 rival magicians
trying to outdo each other. when the seemingly clever character Bale portrays may know real magic. definitely seems like a cool concept.
due out: October 20th, 2006
The Fountain : for some this is the long awaited third film by Darren Aronofsky. for others it's a movie by a director that may be too artsy.
for the rest, it's a movie by a guy they haven't heard of. in any case, this movie looks great. Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz star in
a movie spanning a thousand years in the constant search for immortality. through true love and turmoil they search for the "tree of life".
due out: October 13th, 2006
The Science of Sleep : from the creative and intriguing mind that brought you Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, comes a strange
story of man who incorporates his dreams into his reality. finding a girl he likes living across the hall, the movie seems to explore
his strange look at interactions and attempts to be with her.
due out: September 15th, 2006
Children of Men : a new look at the apocalypse involving the idea of infertility. when humans can no longer have babies, there
is only a matter of time before they are extinct. Clive Owen, Michael Caine and Julianne Moore star in this movie about hope
and determination to have a future.
due out: September 29th, 2006
The Departed : Martin Scorcese returns with yet another movie about the crime syndicate. this time it takes place in South Boston.
Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Wahlberg, Matt Damon and Jack Nicholson this movie involves moles, a major crime boss,
a new undercover cop and a lot of mistrust. i doubt Scorcese will elt fans down with this one.
due out: October 10th, 2006
Crank : for some people, like myself, The Transporter was a terrible failure that had potential, with a sequel to unbearable
to view. now with that in mind Jason Statham has a new action film that will hopefully destroy the stigma those previous
films hold with him. Crank involves a hit man who has one hour to live and a large score to settle. this all before the poison
in his veins becomes lethal. since this is rated 'R', i think the action that should have saved The Transporter can be shown
to make this one cool.
due out: September 1st, 2006
Beerfest : a new comedy from Broken Lizard (Super Troopers; Club Dread) about competitive beer drinking.
what more can yo say really?
due out: August 25th, 2006
Casino Royale : the new Bond flick with the new Bond, Daniel Craig. should be a great new addition to the 007 collection.
due out: November 17th, 2006
TMNT : maybe a little bit more into the distant future, but another movie filling a few childhood fantasies. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
is coming back to theaters and contrary to the way most movies to this, it's animated. most start animated and do live action (like the
next movie i'll list), but TMNT started the other way around and is coming back. this should be quite interesting to say the least.
due out: March 30th, 2007
Transformers : now a live action Transformers movie. whether you think it's a smart movie to make, smart to let Michael Bay
direct it, or what have you, i think most everyone who had any fascination with the show as a child will check it out.
due out: July 4th, 2007
well those are some of the films that i have seen trailers for and want to check out. i hope this is informative and will convince a few readers of this nonsense to check them out as well. peace out yo!
p.s.
The Black Dahlia looks sweet too!
