Personality:
Sweet, nice girl, with unyielding will. Despite her general kindness and extremely pure heart, she isn't afraid to stand up and fight when her friends need that. She also shows her laid-back side of personality whenever she slacks off with Sora, or when she in kind of rebellious way does everything to stay as far away as she can of doing what she was actually asked to do. Kairi is much more mature than her friend Sora, but still more childish than Riku, who's usually the voice of reason within the group.
After the events that changed her life entirely and forced her to be away from her best friends for whole year, she became a lot more sincere, and gets sad a little more easier than before. She also became more aware of difficult subjects like darkness of the hearts, the pain of losing her friends - but also how to deal with them. She never gives up easily, and believes it's better to take stupid action than do nothing. As such, she can be brave, but also rash and irresponsible - especially if she wants to help her friends, she tends to forget about her own safety.
Kairi's aware of her role as the Princess of Heart - but she doesn't give it much thought. She doesn't feel any more 'princess-ly' than she was before she found out.
Kairi makes new friends really easily, as she's very out-going person, open to basically everyone. Being kind and sweet person she is, but also pretty fun to spend time with, it's hard to dislike her. She does have the whole amount of insecurity as any other teenager, especially after being so used to living in a small island with a group of well-known people, however her journey made her much more open.

AU Background:
Kairi was originally born in Radiant Garden, and she lived there with her grandmother. One night when she was only five years old, however, she suddenly appeared on the shore of Destiny Islands during the meteor shower. She never truly found out why, nor about what happened to her real family. She was adopted by mayor's family and lived on Destiny Islands ever since. She was spending most of her time going to school, having fun with her best friends and doing more fun, but pretty average things.
One day everything changed, when some strange events began to occur in Destiny Islands. Kairi wasn't much part of them, though; after she lost her heart she got kidnapped by some unknown forces. Riku and Sora struggled with their own journey while she was unable to do anything - it was much later when she proved her heart was strong when she brought Sora back and helped Riku accept the darkness in his heart. Three friends also became aware of the strange things caused by mysterious black mist during their long journey.
After she, Sora, and Riku returned to Destiny Islands, Kairi was quite sure now things will return to normal. Suddenly, however, the mayor - quite mad about her few-months-long disappearance - called her, saying she got an invitation to Disney Academy. And because of her actions, she doesn't have anything to say in that matter, he added. A bit angry about the outcome - but realizing it might be a good way to learn more about the mist, Kairi had no choice but to comply. And besides, she was pretty sure either Sora or Riku - or most probably, both - will be offered such invitation soon as well; it was actually quite surprising that she got hers first.
