I have lots of things to write about but am feeling constantly tired all the time and lack the energy to put into a big post. I'm super busy at school for the next few weeks to finish everything off for my manuscript. I leave next Saturday for New Orleans for the one conference I'll be going to this year.
Jake's cousin-in-law, Matt, is coming to stay with us tonight through the whole week. He's working on his dissertation at Syracuse University and needs access to some historical documents that are apparently only here at UM. So he and I will be carpooling to work this week.
My dad had his surgery this week on Wednesday to install his
Ilizarov apparatus. We didn't expect him to be released from SUNY Upstate until yesterday or today, but he called Jake and I on Friday from home! His recovery was more rapid than anyone expected, so they let him go home to get some real sleep. Now we'll see how this new technique works on bringing his leg bones together to heal over the next 9-12 months. The surgeons took out 5 cm of dead bone during the procedure, so we're crossing our fingers.
And now, the pictures!
We've had some trouble with water in our basement. Something about our Everdry water removal system is wonky. So we have rust-colored water in one room of our basement (not one we use).
Jake went down to check on the levels a week or so ago... and we had a frog! Eww eww eww.
My girls and I just before Amanda's wedding. I love them.
"If anyone has just cause that these two should not be married, let them speak now or forever hold their peace"
Amanda wanted to make sure nobody spoke up just then!
Amanda and Darren, just married.
Everyone gave me suggestions for pictures that I should take. I think it was Darren who said "Let's get a picture of our rings!"
I was happy to oblige.
The wedding party and guests. The five of us on the far left are laughing pretty hard because,
for the first time in my life, I was asked to be a little SHORTER so I didn't block Sandy's head!
Jake and niece Julia, 3 months.
For reference, here she is at 1 day old.
Karen and I dug out all the baby collectibles that Mom has kept for us as decorations.
That duck with the pink hat and scarf? That's a 'piggy' bank that was given to me as an infant. It still has some change in it.
We had lots of yummy food and lots of flowers all around for decoration. I love tulips.
I brought the cake topper home with us. It's sitting to one side of our stove.
Kayleigh asked me very seriously when she arrived at the shower "Where's the baby?"
When I told her it was still in my belly growing, she gave me a weirded-out look and asked "WHY is it in your BELLY?"
Then she helped me open all the gifts.
Macie had just turned 1 the week before and was busy practicing her standing and walking.
Happiest baby I've ever seen-- well, maybe except Ira Blauvelt.
Macie visited my mom.
I'm so glad that Nana and my mom kept all those little kid's chairs. Soon my baby will be able to sit in them!
Miss Julia.
Karen startled her with the flash, she was just waking up from a nap.
This is classic 'me'. Gesturing and talking are not separable tasks in my life.
Andi got a whole bunch of books for Baby P.
Unfortunately, she also got THE MOST HORRIBLE BOOK ON THE PLANET (
Love You Forever).
I can't even think about reading this without tearing up. If there was ever a book written expressly for the purpose of torturing mothers (or soon-to-be mothers), this would be it.
The unofficial dress code for the shower was 'wear a green top'.
This picture shows pretty accurately how many of us were wearing green.
Finally, photographic evidence of why Jake doesn't have a beard.
He does really well growing facial hair on his chin and upper lip, but there are big bald patches along his cheeks.
He didn't shave all this week while on spring break because he was too busy painting all of our bathrooms and the hallway toward the laundry room. He primed with the anti-mold primer while I was gone at school because it's pretty smelly and the fumes would probably not be so good for the baby. He did most of the painting while I was gone also and aired out the house really well after every day. He also took the hardware knobs off our kitchen and bathroom cabinets and spray painted them silver (we don't really like gold). They look a lot nicer than before and it was a cheap fix! Now he's at school preparing for the week after spring break. I'm just waiting for him to call and say he's on his way home.
I sat next to a baby at church today and he smiled at me. Then my baby kicked me on the inside as if to say "Hey mama, you have no idea. You think THIS baby is cute? Just wait until you meet me!"
