Antidisestablishmentarianism-- what does this mean, anyway?

Watching the Olympics makes me feel like a big fat tool sometimes.  All right, most of the time.  These people are in AWESOME shape and are dedicated to keeping themselves that way, to competing for the best of the best... it makes me envious.

And then I just feel tired.

Jake is good for my well-being.  On our anniversary day (Tuesday, which means he was in Ann Arbor anyway), he came into my work with me and did an experiment for me.  With radioactivity and everything! He had never pipetted before, so that was a new and exciting adventure.  And now, since he's done an experiment and knows (kind of) what I do day in and out, he's been asking questions about my project and talking with me about it and getting excited about it for me.  It's just good to hear someone be excited about what I'm doing and have an idea of what exactly it takes to come up with the data I have and how great it feels to check something off my 'to-do' list for my project.

He's such a sweetheart.

We went camping last night and it was lots of fun.  Just 11 miles away at Highland recreation area, but it was nice to dig out all our stuff.  The camping was good, we have sleeping bags now, but there were only latrines and no large trees to shade the campsites, so it was quite hot during the afternoon and this morning and latrines creep me out a little.  I don't know that we'll camp there again, but at least we got out once!  It's remarkably simple for us to camp-- I'm used to big productions with my parents and family that involve 4-day trips and a camper and jet ski and enough food to feed a small army.  And and and.  This was just us and Olive, 2 meals, and a deck of cards.  Refreshingly simple.

I woke up at 6 this morning to take my temperature and then Olive decided it was time to go out.  I took her and went to the latrines myself, and then was able to take pictures of the sunrise.  It's not very often that I get to be outside at sunrise, not to mention have the clarity of mind to take photos.  So those are on my camera and should be taken off sometime tomorrow.
I went through my camera today and deleted all the blurry and crap-tastic photos.  I culled it from 280-ish to 179, so maybe I should go back through again.  The bad thing about having a 4 GB card is that all the pictures can just stay there without worrying about them taking up valuable disk space on my computer.

I just had to pause in my typing to cheer on the Canadian in the swimming 1500 m freestyle.  See how the Olympics completely take over?  The only reason I'm watching tonight is 1) It's M. Phelps' last race in Beijing and 2) It's the only of M. Phelps' race that isn't on a school night.

Speaking of school nights, I'm starting in my carpool on Monday.  It's a couple people from Howell, me from Hartland, and one from Brighton.  We're going to each drive one day per week and rotate on the fifth day.  I have to drive myself on Thursdays because of the UMSARC training grant seminar series, so that makes a total of 9 days per month that I will drive my car.  9 days back and forth to Ann Arbor is less than 2 tanks of gas.  Contrast that to the 4+ tanks I would have to buy if I was driving myself alone... yeah, we're going to be saving the environment AND our wallets.  (!)
