So, remember how I posted yesterday about not cooking because I had this colloquium and they were going to feed me vegetarian food?
Yeah, I fail.
I skipped out on the dinner so we could go to one of Jake's co-worker's house; they were having a party. Plus, another one of his co-workers was there and had brought their 3-week old baby! I got to hold the baby for a long time while she just kinda stared at me and chilled out. It was so nice. Such tiny toes!
So anyway, since I had to have blood drawn this morning I couldn't eat anything after 7 pm, so I ate in the car on the drive up. I had applesauce, cheez-its, and vernor's. What a delightfully healthy dinner. Sheesh.
Jake had some really nice Mexican food at the party, but I could not partake. I didn't really care, because I got to hold the baby while everyone else was eating! :-)
Today we were up early to drive to Howell for the blood draw. It's just a comprehensive metabolic panel, there's nothing the matter with me. The doctor that I saw on Monday wants one just as a baseline for comparison in case I get sick. It measures fasting blood glucose levels to make sure I don't have diabetes, kidney and liver functions, cholesterol levels, blah blah blah. I've never had blood taken before, and mentioned it to the phlebotomist when my name was called. She seemed kind of shocked, but then talked me through the whole thing. I asked her if she could draw a little extra for determining my blood type but she said that would have to be another referral from the doctor. She did say if I ever donated blood through the Red Cross they would tell me and give me a little card with my blood type on it to boot. Too bad I haven't made the weight cutoff to donate blood. (Well, according to the scale in the doctor's office I did, by 3 pounds, but I'm not so sure that I am at that weight the whole time)
Anyway, blood draw took all of 30 seconds, during which the nurse chattered away at me and I stared deliberately at the floor next to my feet. I have this weird thing about needles and blood and can make myself really dizzy and nauseous. Sometimes, I almost pass out! Ask my grandmother-- I drove her to a post-op meeting after she had orthoscopic knee surgery to remove some arthritic growths. The doctor was showing her the before and after x-rays and I completely lost it. Like, she had to get up from the little examining room bed and take a chair so I could lie down. I felt so embarrassed.
Jake is busy downstairs, sweeping down the walls from all the concrete dust that was kicked up during our basement re-finishing. He's vacuuming up all the dirt and dust and Olive hair right now, and then he plans to mop the concrete floor.
Me? I'm just being lazy, updating livejournal, baking some banana bread and making iced tea. Oh, and folding a couple loads of laundry. I love weekends! :-)
