Kick me when I'm down

Ok, so news on the stove. We got a new one! James put a work order in on Tuesday at 4:20 pm. I had a stove in my house at 4:45 pm the same day.
Rick, the guy in charge of housing, came by the next day to talk to me about that, told me roughly how much a stove would cost, and generally checked to see if we were ok and see how much damage had been done to the rest of the kitchen. If you count soot and melted plastic stuck to the walls as damage, then there really wasn't much.
James got a letter from Rick in his mailbox at work letting him know that if it turns out that our old stove is repairable, they won't charge us for the new one. If it's not, then we owe them for the new one. Simple as that.
Frankly, I'm optimistic about this. Aside from some plastic melted to the surface and the dials being melted off on one side, it still works. It just needs to be cleaned off and new dials, really.

Computer Monitor. James has a Teacher's Showcase in Saskatoon for four days next week. This means I get to hijack his monitor while he's gone. That means internet on MY tower. I can take the monitor downstairs and get some serious updating going. Boy am I looking forward to that. Also? Being able to do internet and computer stuff all at the same time? So looking forward to that. He is also talking about getting me a monitor while he's down in Saskatoon. He apparently wants to get me a 24 inch one. I don't need something that big! A 15 or a 17 will be just fine, thanks!

And now for the not good.
I was at the computer yesterday and I heard Liam crying from the basement. He's almost 3, so hearing him cry at random isn't unusual around here. Aislyn came up a bit later to tell me that Liam fell down. Now, if she's telling me, he probably hurt himself a little or knocked something over, like the shelf in my TV stand. Still not terribly concerned, I save what I was doing on the computer and head downstairs.
Standing at the bottom of the stairs is my boy covered in blood!
Still not really panicking. I figured he was having a nose bleed and smeared it all over his face with his hands as sometimes happens. I get him to the bathroom and he's asking em to wash his hands. Never mind the blood on his face. So I get his face washed first and then blood starts leaking from this gash on his forehead. I put a bandaid on it and cleaned his hands. Blood kept leaking out from under the bandaid. Not good.
Hands clean, I take the bandaid off and get the bleeding stopped. Once it did, I finally see that the gash is pretty deep. Ok. Now the panic sets in.
I call James at work, let him know that I'm taking Liam to the hospital and that we could be there a while. Pack the kids into their winter gear and proceed to head for the hospital.
On foot.
Yes, my car still hasn't gotten its tires fixed. Luckily, we have a toboggan. It's what I've been using to get groceries. I put Liam on the sled, took Aislyn's hand, and off we went. It's about a 20 minute walk to the hospital while pulling a sled. We got there, they shunted us over to emergency where a doctor managed to glue his forehead shut. They nearly had to stitch him, but no blood leaked out the second time they tried to get him sitting up. We went home and I gave them some strawberries for being so good.

So happy Valentines Day...
My husband says he has a V-day present for me, but he forgot it in his desk drawer at school. Way to make me feel loved, dear....
On the plus side of that, he's making me dinner this weekend. Anything I want. I told him steak. We never have steak because I suck at making it. He makes goooooood steak. So there we go. That did make up for a lot of things.

Hopefully, today is a better day. Need to renew car insurance, get groceries, check the mail, unfreeze the tire rim from our front yard, take out the garbage, and get a new strainer to replace the one I melted on my stove on Monday night....

life, liam, valentines, hospital
