Round 23 - "Character Study"
Mixer's Notes: The resident medic for "secret" organisation Torchwood, Owen Harper (That's Doctor Owen Harper to you, thank you very much) is a self-professed "twat" and a bit of a jerk, but has a heart of gold and a traumatic past. Owen is angry, Owen is selfish, Owen is sad - as a counterpoint to the mysterious Jack, logical Tosh, quiet Ianto and empathic Gwen (the other members of Torchwood), Owen unabashedly allows himself to feel. His life unfolds, tragedy after tragedy, abandonment and death - and perhaps that is part of his motivation to serve those around him as a doctor, as a restorer of life.
About the Mix: I'm going back to my home ground - instrumentals - again. If I chose songs with lyrics, I'd probably gravitate towards the sort of music Owen himself would listen to, and 1) end up with a bunch of the same songs that are featured in the Torchwood series, and/or 2) end up being a very, very angry mix. Owen was chosen because I have been obsessed with Torchwood for the past several months. I was initially very taken with Captain Jack Harkness, but recently I'm very fond of Owen. He's one of those characters you don't quite get on the first watch, but eventually come to understand and love, despite their shortcomings.
