poetry - Appendicitis

Jun 03, 2016 11:11

They never really could tell me
My purpose in their system.
I don't provide sustenance,
nor nutrition. I'm an Appendix:

Some say they need me, yet
They don't even know why -
I'm meant to be part of their life,
Only to be cut out in due time?

They didn't know I was around
until someone pointed it out and
made it painfully obvious. Yes,
I'm here, but I've no use to you.

No words of wisdom or definition
would give clarity on this subject.
Intuition says I've no importance
and only exist as accompaniment.

but Don't put value on my opinions,
They're words that cause derailment
and avert your eyes from my tears.
I am nothing no one is worth keeping.

On the eve of this Birthday, I said some vile and vulgar things to upset the people I hold closest. I admit, there are times when I feel irrelevant and out of the loop, but I realize that certain interactions are joys I cannot take away from them. Whether I am present or not, should not effect another person's happiness. I might not always be around to celebrate this existence, but I'm here in the background, I'm your Appendix.
