Life Update

Haven't written in a bit, I've actually been pretty busy!  Last week I went to Mike's early...I headed down Tuesday night and Wednesday we went on the wine tasting.  It was awesome.  I had such a good time with him and his family.  He's just such a hard guy to tie down I'm totally afraid of losing him once he goes to school.  But if it happens, it happens.  I'm not one to believe that there is only one person out there for everyone.  I'll find someone else.  I just REALLY like him.

Anyways...

I got a cold on the fourth of July.  I'm pretty sure that's the first time ever that I've been sick on the fourth.  I still have it, even though I sleep and eat well and have been taking care of myself.  Oh well.  I don't know what I did Monday.  I shopped on Tuesday and found out I didn't get the job at the literary agency that I knew I wasn't going to get anyway.  It still sucks getting the rejection though.  Then I had this huge Twitter problem with my parents and sent them a scathing e-mail and then they got even more pissy, but in the end all is well and I still have my Twitter and I still don't see what is wrong with it.  Wednesday I had an interview.  It was pretty sweet.  I have to have a 400-page manuscript read for them by Monday, but I can totally handle that.  It's only a part-time position though, so no health insurance, but there is room for growth, and I like that.  Also, the literary agent is awesome and totally knows her way around the industry, so she'd be a really good person to work with.  Today I had an interview with Crumbs (yes, I am obsessed, so what) and it was AWESOME and I really really want to work for them.  Ideally I'd like to work for the agency and Crumbs, so cross your fingers!  I also had an interview with a non-profit called Baby Buggy that collects new and gently used baby items and distributes them to different organizations who give it directly to parents in need.  Great organization, great people, and I know that if I got the job I would love it, but it got me thinking.

I know that I want to work in publishing, for sure.  And I know that at some point I might consider working for non-profits, or going back to school and getting a degree in social work.  My one concern is that now is the only time I can go into publishing.  I have enough for an entry level job, but if I stop here, I would have to take a non-paying internship or go and take a publishing course if I ever wanted to get back into the industry later in life.  I think that would be a waste since I already know what I want and have the experience under my belt to get started now.  I can go into a non-profit anytime as long as I keep my volunteerism up.  Also, the location of Baby Buggy is not so prime (far from the subway and near at least 5 "Peep Show" signs), and with that job there would be some times where I would be required to stay later with the volunteers into the night, and this isn't a company that would give me cab fare on those nights to keep me safe.  That said, I think when they get back to me (if I get it) I'm going to pass.  As I said, I would enjoy the work I'm doing there (you basically get paid to do what volunteers do, so why not?) but now is not the time or place.

Anyway, that's my life at the moment.  Now on to reading the manuscript.  I got a grasshopper cupcake from Crumbs (free!) after my interview, and I already ate it and it was amazing.  Tomorrow I'm getting up early (matinees in New York are only before noon) to see Bruno.  I'm pretty pumped.
