The other night I went to my first Open Mic night of the year here at Clarkson. They are held every wednesday night through out the year and are typically a lot of fun. While there I heard a song that I don't ever recall hearing before. The guy who played it was the opener, which was nice because he was just doing a solo accoustic number and the place had yet to get overly loud and rowdy. So he played this song which I later came to find out was Staind - Outside. After hearing his accoustic version and having the song stuck in my head for a day I finally listened to Staind's studio and accoustic versions.

Now I really liked this song. I mean, in a sense that is was really catchy, but also I liked the initial lines of the chorus "I'm on the outside, and I'm looking in. I can see through you, see your true colors." I mean, if that would not be the worlds greatest super power, what would? It is just a very powerful thing to know what someone truely means, feels, wants. The rest of the song is a little bit of a let down because I was hoping it would continue to get deeper, but rather it sort of takes the typically angst of a musical artist route and continues with "Cause inside you’re ugly, You’re Ugly like me. I can see through you ,See to the real you." Which is fine for the song, but I was hoping for something a little bit more thought provoking.

I'm thinking of maybe doing the Open Mic thing sometime myself. I don't know though, I would love to just because I could play some songs I think every person on earth should hear, but I'm not really that great at guitar and I cannot sing. i think the fact that I cannot sing will probably keep me from doing it. But hey, it's always a thought, maybe I'll just do some silly solo like the Super Mario Theme.
