11:17 PM.

"Are you awake?" Andy asked when she felt Emily shiver in her arms.

"Uh huh, Yeah." Emily replied and moaned softly. "I don't want to sleep." the Brit said.

"Why not?" Andy asked.

Emily breaths in deeply a couple of times. "I'm just afraid that I won't wake up, you know? It's what they say that happens when you freeze to death. It's just like going to sleep." Emily replied.

"Yeah." Andy says softly. "But there's worse ways to go." Andy said thinking how wonderful it is to have Emily in her arms.

A couple of seconds later there's a loud tap on the window and both women jump and scream. "Oh my god, who is it?" Emily asks fearing it could be the man from before.

"Is everything alright in there?" The guy asks outside and the radio began playing with Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree.

"It's a cop." Andy says when she gets a glimpse of the mans uniform through the fogged up window and sighs in relief that help finally has come.

"What? Oh.. Oh thank god!" Emily says as she quickly rips off the newspaper from where they put it on the gap of the window to keep the cold air out before winding down the window.

"Oh my god, you don't know how glad we are to see you!" Emily says once her windows down and looks at the guy who's ducked down to look inside.

"You won't believe what's been happening out there." Andy says and the cop shines his light on Andy and then again onto Emily.

"Someone ran us off of the road. We've just.." Emily says and stops when the officer speaks.

"There's no parking here." He says.

Emily turns to look at Andy who's staring wide eyed at the officer before she too turns worried eyes onto him.

She shakes her head. "No.. no we're not.." Emily replies.

"What are you talking about? Didn't you hear what she said?" Andy asks. "Somebody ran us off the road!" They both say in unison.

"Listen, I might be willing to let you off with a warning this time if we can come to some sort of.. arrangement?" He asks.

"What.. what are you talking about?" Andy asks. "We.." she begins to talk again but Emily puts up her hand. "Shh.." Emily says turning to Andy.

"What?" Andy asks looking at Emily.

"It's a shake town." Emily says and Andy shakes her head. "What?" Andy asks again.

"It's a shake town!" Emily says again more firmly. "They were the ones who probably ran us off the road." Emily said.

"What? You think this whole thing was a scam?" Andy asks confused. "That son of a bitch could have killed us!" Andy yells.

"Shh!" Emily hisses. "How much cash do you have on you?" Emily asks turning to look back out the window at the officer who had wandered back to his police car.

"Huh?" Andy says.

"Seriously. How much?" Emily asks before reaching forward and grabbing her hand bag and fishing out her purse.

Andy grabs her purse and begins looking through it. "I can't believe this." Andy says as she takes a few notes from her purse. "Here. I've got... 20, 30, 35.." Andy says as she begins counting the money. "I've got nearly 40 bucks." Andy says.

"Okay." Emily replies nodding her head.

"Here, let me take care of this." Andy says and begins sitting up in the chair and waits for Emily to move out for her.

Emily rolls her eyes. "Oh please!" Emily says and grabs the money from Andy's hand. "How many speeding tickets have you sweet talked your way out of?" Emily says before opening the door and stepping out into the cold night air.

She walks over to the man who has his back facing her.

"This is all we have." Emily says handing out the money towards him.

"Sir?" Emily asks as the guy remains quiet.

The police officer rubs his neck with his hand. "Some weather we're having." He says.

"Yeah, sure is. Um.. so what do you say, how about a little Christmas spirit?" she asks.

"You know, this is one bad stretch of road." He replies.

"Yeah." Emily replies looking at the back of his head.

"All kinds of trouble going on out here. Kids drag racing. Lady drivers breaking down and no one ever hears from them again." He says.

Emily opens her mouth but then closes it straight away not knowing what to say. "Uh.. we just.. we just want to get out of here so if you.. if you could just.." Emily trails off.

"Let me tell you I've seen a lot of fatalities on this road." the police officer says finally turning around and looked at Emily. "You're lucky that I came along when I did." He says.

Emily begins to breath in and out deeply and she looks down at the money she's holding before looking up at the officer. "Yep.." she says softly.

"So why don't you get in my car?" He asks.

Emily turns her head and looks up at him. "I'm not getting in your car." Emily replies slowly shaking her head as her heart begins to beat faster from fear.

The Police Officer begins moving closer to her and begins to start walking around her. Emily quickly steps forward and turns to look at him. "I think maybe I just want to.. to go back to my car." Emily says as she begins freaking out.

"You're not going anywhere!" He yells in her face.

Emily gasps and stares at him completely horrified. "What the hell is going on here?"  Emily thinks to herself.

She looks over the mans shoulder when she hears a loud whispering sort of sound and she sees one of the men she and Andy had been chasing after before standing up on a hill looking down at them. The officer turns around and looks at what Emily's looking at before turning back to Emily. "Get in the damn patrol car." He whispers.

"Please just let us go." Emily pleads.

"Hurry up! We've got an audience." The police officer replies and begins to slowly move forward, closer to the Brit and Emily begins taking steps back to get away from him.

"We didn't do anything.. just please just let us go." Emily replies and feels like she is going to start crying. "Please, we won't tell anybody! If you'd just.. please.. we've done nothing wrong!" Emily says continuing to move backwards. "We.. sir, we got stranded here. Don't do this!" Emily pleads.

Andy who had seen what was happening had carefully grabbed a metal pole from the back seat of the car and silently stepped out of the vehicle and quietly made her way towards the police officer who was getting closer to Emily by each second.

"Get away from her you bastard!" Andy screams and swings the pole forward.

Emily jumped away when the pole slammed against the police officer’s head.

Andy watched as the police officer’s head turns back around and he glared at her.

One minute they're standing outside and the next moment Emily and Andy feel a pull and with a flash they are back into the car. The police officer nowhere in sight.

Emily turns and looks at Andy who whimpers loudly and Emily looks down at the pole that was stuck between Andy's hands.

"Oh Jesus!" Emily says and leans forward closer to Andy and gently touches Andy's hand who hisses at the pain. "You're fingers are stuck. Okay, you're really going to need to breath, this is going to hurt, okay? Hold on." Emily says before looking up at Andy who was looking at her, staring her in the eyes and Emily could see the fear and pain in the brunette's eyes.

"Are you ready?" Emily asks.

Andy slowly nods her head. "Yes." She replies softly.

"Okay, just breath." Emily says before peeling back Andy's hand off the pole and Andy screamed out in pain.

"Okay, that's good, that's really good. Well done." Emily says and tears begin running down her face.

Andy stares at her hands. "How bad is it?" Andy asks.

"You've got frost bites. Second or third degree." Emily replies.

"How do you know?" Andy asks turning to look at the red-head and saw the tears trickling down her cheeks. "She's worried for me." Andy thinks.

"Ski camp." Emily replies and looks up at Andy. "We need to get her hands warm."   Emily says thinking to herself. "The only way to do that is..." She thinks to herself and comes to a conclusion.

"Uh.. okay.." Emily says and pulls up the front of her jumper.

"What are you doing?" Andy asks and stares at the beautiful body that was Emily's and she couldn't peel her eyes away.

"We need to warm your hands, okay? We gotta get the circulation going. You could lose your fingers." Emily says and gently grabs Andy's right hand and places it on her stomach.

Andy hisses in pain at the warmth from Emily's body that it caused her hand but she revelled in the feeling of Emily's body.

Emily breaths in deeply. "What just happened out there?" She asks.

"I don't know. I don't know where he went." Andy replies.

"I know, it's like, who was he? One minute he was there and the next he's gone. It's like he was a.." Emily says and trails off.

"A ghost." Andy finishes for Emily.

Emily shakes her head. "No.." Emily says more to herself then Andy because she doesn't want to believe it's real. "How do we make it stop?" Emily asks.

Andy pulls her hand away from Emily's stomach and holds it tightly with her other to try and stop them from shaking. "I don't know. We never covered this in Philosophy." Andy replied.

Emily looks down and notices that Andy's hands are shaking. "Shh.. it's okay." Emily says softly before moving around in the car and then leans back against Andy like how they were sitting peacefully together earlier and places both of Andy's hands on her stomach to get them warm.

"Oh god." Andy says and groans a couple of times.

"Shh.." Emily says trying to calm Andy.

"It's warm... god." Andy says and feels Emily's stomach move under her hands. "I can feel your stomach rumbling." Andy softly says.

Emily sighs. "God, I would give anything for some of those Carr's crackers." Emily replies and sighs again as she leans closer into Andy.

Andy laughs softly. "Yeah, me too." She replies and swallows loudly.

"What else did you have in that grocery bag?" Emily asks.

"Oh, you don't want to know." Andy replies and buries her head into Emily's neck.

"I do, really.. I just.. just talk to me.. I just need you to." Emily replies.

Andy nods her head. "Okay.." She says. "I got us.. I got Duck Liver Pate. And uh.. I got some olives, the normal kind and the blacked shrivelled ones." Andy says and Emily sighs. "Oh, those black little ones?" She asks and feels Andy nod her head behind her. "And I got us some White Wine and then for dessert I got uh.. uh.. Chocolate Truffles and a thermos of Espresso." Andy says and shivers.

"That's pretty much exactly the meal I'd order for my last day on earth." Emily replies. "You knew that anyways." She adds.

Andy couldn't help but laugh. "Yeah.." Andy replies softly.

"Yeah.." Emily says and closes her eyes and felt tears running down her cheeks and into her hair line and she let out a small sob.

Andy heard Emily's small sob and lifts up her head from where it had been laying near Emily's neck and looks at Emily.

"I just want to go home." Emily cries and covers her eyes with her gloved hand.

"Shh.. come on.. It's going to be alright. We are going to be alright." Andy says and holds Emily tighter. "It uh.. It can't be too much longer until dawn." Andy says and Emily brings her other hand up to cover her face as she continues to cry. "There's bound to be someone that's going to come by." Andy says.

Emily moves her hands away from her face and breaths out slowly as she tries to control her tears.

"Somebody will come by, you know, a snow plow or something." Andy says, trying reassure Emily they'd be found but in truth she really wasn't sure what was going to happen. She still had an odd feeling about all of this. With the police officer and the men they were chasing before.

Emily nods slowly. "How are your hands?" Emily asks pulling Andy out from her thoughts.

"They're starting to burn." Andy replies.

"Oh, that's good!" Emily replies. She's so glad her loves hands are mending. "That's really good, it means the circulation is coming back." Emily says.

"Yeah, it's great." Andy replies. "I mean, they're really starting to burn." Andy says again. "Is this normal?" She wonders to herself and groans.

"I've got some tylenol." Emily says.

"Yeah?" Andy asks.

"Let go, I'll get you some." Emily replies.

"Okay." Andy replies and slowly releases her hands away from Emily's body.

Emily groans as she sits forward and then gets over into the back seat of the car and goes through her hand bag until she finds the medicine she wants.

She grabs the tablets and a bottle of water Andy bought from the gas station and moves back into the front of the car and hands them to Andy.

Andy takes a couple of the pills and swallows them dry.

"God, it's freezing." Emily says and turns around to fix up the newspaper on the window.

~*~

Emily was sliding her hand over the newspaper to make it stick better again when something got her attention. “ Oh my god. I think I know who those men are. I mean were. Listen” Emily said to Andy as she was reading the newspaper. She stretched her head sideways to read it better.

“The first to arrive at the scene were Roman Catholic priests from St. Christopher’s Home for Retired Clergy..” Emily reads out loud to Andy.

“Priests.” Andy repeats. Emily ignores her and continues reading the newspaper.

“... Hearing the crash on nearby Route 606, they braved inclement weather to administer Last Rights to the dying pair. They were unable to save the highway patrol officer who was also involved in the accident. Continue on page seven.” Emily quickly turns the page only to find no page seven. She however finds the date of the newspaper.

“December 23rd 1953.” Emily almost whispers. She turns to Andy. “We need to take turns keeping watch. Okay?” She asks Andy. Andy nods sleepily. “I’ll go first.” Emily continues seeing Andy is trying hard to stay awake. “You get some sleep.” She tells Andy.

Andy manages to nod again before drifting off to sleep.
