My in-laws arrived today. We spent part of the afternoon hiking on Mt. Diablo, and then off to dinner with them. I like how easily they laugh, at how they accept others, their intelligence, and their concern for others.
We spent hours chatting about archeology, US politics, Canadian politics, and old friends. I learned they finally sold their LandRover - the same one they drove from Northern Canada to the very tip of South America back in 1970. That familiar LandRover was their field vehicle for years and it still runs! I learned they donated most of their library of anthropology and archeology books to the university - and got a $480,000 tax deduction for it. (They had over 50,000 books in their home library, and now have less than 10,000.) We also chatted about what we should do with all their artifacts and home when C inherits it.
