Who's the Predator???

Today was a good day.  I give credit
java_fiend who helped me get my head on straight Friday night.  I guess with my self-imposed workload with the zoo, the mothering, and the full-time job mixed with the deadbeat dad-induced poverty my head seems to get... crooked.
java_fiend was kind enough to talk some sense into the raving lunatic that was me.  The result?  Productivity, improved parenting, and a more responsible 7-year-old.

One of today's accomplishments included locating a butcher who likes to help a doggie out.  He gave (yes, that is GAVE... as in FREE) us 2 big ol' cow femurs complete with socket joints.  He was nice enough to cut them up for us.  Suddenly my doggies looked small.

Here are the results of our butcher shop begging:

Description:  White and brindle greyhound pup stand under the kitchen table over a hip joint that is larger than his head.  He holds the ball joint down with one foot while prying off fat and gristle from the top of the femur with his teeth.

Description:  Black and white pit bull chomps enthusiastically on knee joint that is the same size as her big block head.

Description:  Long haired black kitty eagerly chews tiny bits of gristle off of center femur bone.  Little black mutt watches from the shadows trying to figure out if he's supposed to do something with that gross messy bone thing.

Leo, the dog hiding in the shadows, eventually lost interest in the bone.  Kristine helped him out by scooping out some of the marrow.  He enjoyed that, but then he threw it up on my couch.  No wonder he was less than half the weight he should have been when I pulled him from the animal shelter 3 years ago.

And just because I like sharing...

Anubis is not allowed on my bed ever.

Description:  White and brindle greyhound laying in the very center of an unmade bed with head held high, ears perked, looking straight at the camera.  Anubis was just hoping I'd chase him off.

After several slippery laps from my room to the kitchen and back, Anubis felt tired and decided to demonstrate the secret to the greyhounds amazing speed...

It's all in the stride, baby!

Description:  White and brindle greyhound lays on his belly halfway on and halfway off his dog bed with his front legs extended directly in front and his hind legs extended straight out behind him.

That white thing under his elbow?  That was the shirt he stole from my bed when simply laying on my bed didn't get me to chase him.
4-month-old pups are awesome.

Today I had the privilege of harvesting the first bell peppers from my garden.  I know it's not much, but there is something extremely fulfilling to me in consuming food that I've grown, especially when the flavor far surpasses anything I could purchase at the grocery store.
