Yes, I agree. I think the author of the satire realizes that as well, which is where the humor (and the tragedy) come from.

Although I'm an atheist, I have immense respect for the principles of Christianity. I like Jesus way better than Buddha or Confucius or Mohammed because he explicitly stated that compassion and kindness were required to follow his teachings. His acts and parables emphasize kindness towards whores, religious minorities, tax collectors (corrupt and greedy men who were cruel and criminal in his time), and the diseased.

It really bothers me that some followers of this kind, loving, charitable teacher emphasize certain strict and even hateful passages from the Old Testament, which Jesus specifically (in my opinion) overrode when he handed down the Great Commandment. I think that the awesomeness of Western civilization (of which I am a big fan and booster) are in many ways directly due to the express compassion of Jesus' teachings and the orderliness inherent to a monotheistic worldview (which gave rise, in my opinion, to the Enlightenment and the scientific method).

I don't understand how people can claim that "God hates fags" or "AIDS is God's vengeance on perverts" while having read the same Bible I studied in school, and it makes me both angry and sad.

Thank you for posting this quote. Jesus was a wise fellow.
