DIY lyrics quiz (proving a stumper)

Jan 18, 2008 14:58

The preliminary answers for the current lyrics quiz are in, and, as I predicted, most of the snippets have fallen pretty quickly to the usual suspects, but the theme remains unanswered. This one’s tough, and I suspect some of you will be angry with me when it is revealed.

THE RULES
  1. I’ve reposted the rules because there’s a hint (or two) in here for those who pay attention.
  2. Please give the artist and title for each song excerpted below. I will allow some wiggle-room, but I will usually require the full and correct title and artist.
  3. Please use only your own brainpower to compose your answers. Googling is cheating, even after you've answered the snippets you recognize; if you Google, then don't guess the theme.
  4. There is a distinct theme for the snippets given; identify the theme by posting a snippet of your own which fits the theme. I will tell you if you are correct (and try to identify your song, as well).
  5. Knowledge of the songs excerpted is required to identify the theme; knowledge of the theme will not necessarily help you identify a given snippet.
  6. Every snippet is taken from a song which has received a certain amount of radio play on mainstream stations; while they certainly reflect my knowledge of and taste in music, none are deliberately obscure (although a few may be pretty hard to recall).
  7. None of the snippets are taken from the first lines or choruses of the songs excerpted.
  8. I think this one is pretty hard; some of you may find it easy, but some of you may find it effectively impossible. I’m sorry.
