Depressing
Did an informational interview tonight with a guy doing HIV research. He just did a study of risk among transmen who hve sex with men and his findings are truly depressing. Most of the men he interviewed experienced physical and or sexual violence in their lives. Most were in their 30s making around $20,000 in San Francisco. (The area median income in San Francisco is above $60,000.) Most had college or master's degrees but were homeless and engaging in survival sex work. It just makes me realize how lucky I am compared to my peers. I make around half of the area median income, live pay check to pay check, and can't save, but at least have a steady job and steady check coming in. I'm still hoping to make area median income one day since this city keeps getting more expensive but it doesn't sound like I'll be able to do that focusing on LGBT health. Grr.
