Room 213 | Early Monday Morning

Jul 18, 2011 09:22

Jake was kind of adorable when he slept. Okay, more than kind of, with the way his face went all soft and young and seemed to lose any trace of wolfishness. The dark shade of his skin always amazed her when pressed against her super paleness, which she'd never considered to be quite so pale before realizing he wasn't just tan. Looking him over, ( Read more... )

Jake rolled into the room she vacated, burying his face in the pillow until somewhere at the back of his mind, he registered that something was missing. He blinked open his eyes, smiling as he noticed Caroline squatting in front of the fridge and he wondered how long he'd slept in now. Not too long probably as she wouldn't let him sleep through his class.

It wasn't until she straightened up, something red in her hands that he realised what she was doing. It shouldn't be surprising, except that he'd never actually seen her feeding. "Where are you going?"

Caroline had class before their class together, so chances were slim she'd be letting him sleep through either. Still, she hadn't expected him to be awake right then.

"Hmm? Go back to sleep. I'll be right back." Avoiding his question? Totally.

Jake rolled to his side, blinking. Maybe if it hadn't been for her reaction last week, he would have just let her go but he was waking up now. At least enough to know that he shouldn't let her sneak off. "Or you could just stay here."

She found it strange that Jake would suggest she stay where he was with a bag of blood in her hands. Obviously he must not have realized in his sleepy state. "This isn't Capri Sun, sweetie," she pointed out gently, even if she kind of treated the bag in her hand like a juice box. "No need to thoroughly sicken you so early."

"I know what it is," he could smell it after all. He started to sit up on the bed, frowning at her. "So exactly how long are you planning on tiptoeing around this thing?"

Not that she was entirely at fault. He'd been letting her, after all.

"Huh?" Caroline glanced at her bare feet, seeing she was far from tiptoeing, though maybe her polish could use a little refreshing and her toe ring a bit of a shine...

He motioned towards the blood bag. "How long are you planning on sparing my stomach? Is there a time frame or are you going to indefinitely eat in the bathroom?"

It was maybe a little early for Caroline, or she was simply confused by the fact that she'd never, ever even considered that this would be a conversation they would want or need to have.

"I...don't know?" Caroline leaned a little against the bathroom doorjamb, clearly understanding she wasn't going to get to eat her breakfast the way she had intended, though she didn't know how he wanted her to change.

He didn't either and he found himself staring at the blood. So bright and red. It clashed horribly with how she was making him feel like he'd just kicked a puppy.

It'd be so easy to just let this go and let her do her thing and he'd never have to think on it again, but then where would that leave them? "I'm making you sneak around like some sort of alcoholic," he said, a simple statement but it left him feeling hollow.

The staring was feeling kind of endless and Caroline shifted awkwardly before freezing up entirely at his statement.

"What? You're not making me do anything," she insisted. It was strange, feeling like he'd slapped her for trying to be nice after she'd actually thought ahead about how he might not appreciate the sight and smell of her daily feeding needs before just cracking open a blood bag and carrying it around in her thermos.

He tore his gaze away from the blood and the bag. Blood in a bag was just weird, but it was the better alternative in this situation.

"So you do this every day then?" he asked her, raising an eyebrow at her and knowing that'd be a no.

"Yes, Jacob. Every day," she told him, a little exasperated by the way he was raising his eyebrow like this was new information for him or something. She kind of needed the blood to live, after all.

"Bull," he pushed up from the bed, not caring that he was kind of naked. "You know what I meant. You nearly had a heartattack last week when you thought I'd been in your fridge."

Her eyes widened, and not even because he was naked. "God, how is this a problem now?" Caroline groaned, remembering all too well how displeased he'd seemed that she didn't want him going through her food supply. "I mean, you know what I am!"

Exactly!

"So why are you trying to hide it?" he asked instantly because that was his point exactly.

"I'm not hiding anything!" Caroline reminded him, swinging her blood bag out in front of herself like a weapon. "I'm just trying to avoid seeing that look of disgust on your face when you smell my breakfast, God!" She didn't understand why he was being so difficult.
