"Uh, you do," Sarah said, looking back like Caroline should know this. It wasn't like her parents looked any different from usual, after all. "Sometimes gramma does but you always redo it after."
"Oh, well, if your grandma is anything like my mother, I can understand why." And okay, so maybe she felt a little better hearing something that sounded like herself from this kid's perspective.
"Your mom likes for everyone's hair to be perfect," Jake laughed, finding that all too easy to imagine. He ruffled Noah's hair as he considered both beds, wondering how they were going to do this.
Jake earned a look for that comment as she worked through the tangles in Sarah's hair. "Hair is important. Have you guys seen pictures of your dad with long hair yet?"
"Well, that explains why you have to redo the braids," Jake teased, not instantly making the connection as he just put it down to gramma confusion. "Your grampa doesn't usually braid his hair, though."
Seeing how hurt the little guy was at this decision, Caroline quickly worked to finish up Sarah's hair, telling him, "Don't worry, Billy. You can do other things. Like, I bet your gramma Liz will take you out in the police car when you visit her. Wouldn't that be fun?"
"Never ever," she agreed, her hands declaring Sarah's hair to be done as she wrapped the band around the end of the braid. "I mean, every day is a bit much, don't you think?"
"Oh my God, never," she said instantly. "That took way too long to get right and I am not doing it again. Don't we have some camping gear? Kids like sleeping bags, don't you kids?"

"No, because she only braids for girls," Sarah retorted quickly. "You'll have to get gramma to do it for you!"
Noah was not going to cry over that, nope. "Gramma Liz likes me best anyway!"

Yeah, totally covering her mouth and gagging at the kids both nodding and looking at her like she was crazy.
