When Jake woke up, he was instantly aware that he wasn't hungry. His eyes snapped open to find his girlfriend snuggled up against him and he grinned. "Thank god."

He happily leaned in and kissed her cheek. "I definitely prefer this look on you."

She laughed a little, letting her hand pat his stomach. It was nice how he could distract her from her overthinking with just a few words. "You sure about that?" she asked, having a very obvious look at the front of his shorts. "I hope you don't mind, I got rid of your weird need for flannel. I prefer to steal your warmth than wear my own."

"Definitely not minding," he assured her, rubbing his hand down her side and drawing her closer against him. "I forgot how cold the world is."

"That's because you're like, made of heat," she murmured, leaning in slide a little higher up along his side so she could hug him all the better. "You know, even after last week, I still missed you while you were me this weekend. Me being all warm is so not the same." Not when she enjoyed letting him warm her up and make her feel all safe and cozy.

"I know," he wrapped his arms more firmly around her, enjoying how she fit against him like that. "I'm a lousy you," he whispered against her neck and he drew in a deep breath, taking in the familiar scent that had long since stopped being bad to him.

"Oh my God, don't sniff me," she grumbled, knowing how freaking gross she smelled to him. "Just like, hold your breath and we'll be awesome."

"I told you," Jake reminded her, pressing a kiss to her skin. "You smell fine to me now. You're just going to have to accept that."

"Fine is not good," she told him. "Fine is like 'you're gross, but I manage not to gag at the sight of you because I somehow grew to love you.'"

Okay, so maybe she was being dramatic, but what did he expect?

She was obviously just back to being herself and he grinned a little and drew back to kiss her gently. "Babe, if it was anything like that, I'd never be able to get through sex. Too bad you didn't get to smell yourself when you're turned on."

He said that on purpose, knowing her eyes would go wide and she would shove at his shoulder crankily. "That has nothing to do with vampire smell!" she argued, looking rather near starting a fight.

"No," he laughed and tried to kiss her cheek appeasingly. "But you still smell good to me now. Like I got blinded by the vampire part of it before, but there's more to it."

"Uh huh," she said, not believing it after smelling just how bad the vampire part was. "You'd better keep saying that because now I know what that smell is and it sucks that you're not at all attracted by it." Because he was supposed to be attracted to everything about her, duh.

"I'm plenty attracted to you," he reassured her, reaching up to touch her cheek. "And that hasn't changed," he added just to make sure.

Yup, he just needed to hold his breath. "You're sure nothing changed? Because I'm still a little concerned that you did not need the intimate introduction to the world of vampires. Including the whole biting thing." Her fingers slid over the spot on his neck, like she needed proof it was still all healed and perfect like before.

"Yeah well... I could have done without that," he agreed, sighing as she brought up the subject as he'd been happy to try and ignore it. Not that it was the healthiest of responses to have.

He didn't know what else to say, though, and he reached up, curling a lock of her hair around his finger.

"Yeah, I know," she nodded, watching him curl her hair around his fingertip. "It was strange, being on the other side of it for once. I honestly didn't even mind other than knowing you would totally hate me for letting you do it later if I hadn't pushed you away." Admitting that seemed necessary somehow, like it might help him cope with it better.
