She ducked his arm, sliding the salt shaker behind her back to keep it from him. "So isn't pizza faster?"

Honestly Caroline should be happy that Elena had brought them a bag of pilfered groceries (and blood) to feed them until they managed to get to town or go hunting.

"We can't order take out every night," he raised an eyebrow at her and tried to reach around her for the salt.

She swapped hands with the salt, trying to put it as far away from him as possible as she smirked up. It wasn't like he couldn't just snatch it away but she was enjoying her game. "Why not?"

"Because," he said, moving closer towards her. He had a hold on the spoon he'd been stirring with and he could have put it down and used it to steal the salt, but that seemed silly. "You're putting too much salt in."

"It will taste horrible," Jake argued, making a grab for her arm. "Maybe you should let me do this."

"I'm better than you," he frowned at the feel of the grains on his wrist and held still. "You are looking for trouble."

"Always," she said easily. "And seriously? I am totally capable of cooking! How do you know you're better? It's not like you've ever asked me to make you anything."

"Because you already put more salt in it than it needs," Jake raised his eyebrows at her, daring her to argue.

"Oh come on, like it'll hurt the water," Caroline scoffed, having no problem arguing. "It hasn't even boiled yet!"

"Adding more salt isn't an answer to that," he rolled his eyes at her and shook the salt from his wrist. "Maybe we should make two batches."

"Oh my God, we are so not starting over, did you miss how long it took for even those little bubbles to form?" Caroline asked, shaking her head and reaching to keep him away from her water.

"You have like zero patience," he laughed. "Maybe you should go do something else while I finish this."
