The perils of dating?

So it was a slow day at work today so what did my colleagues do? Set up a profile on Oasis Active for me: it's a dating website. Now while I don't really mind, I felt kinda bad because it was a colleague who I know likes me that set it up for me. Weird? Yep. Apparently my profile got a bunch of responses. but I don't know. if I had to meet a guy, I ( Read more... )

I think online dating is becoming increasingly more popular. I think it's okay. Gives you a chance to learn a little more about a person with less pressure I guess. I know a lot of people who met their other half from datign sites.

Sorry to hear about the laptop situation. That really stinks!!

Yeah, I'll have to take my lappy in to be repaired. Boo, because I didn't really want to spend more money on it since I got it reformatted and wiped about a year ago.

Yeah, I like that there is less pressure about the online dating, and I know it is becoming increasingly popular, but I still have my reservations, I guess...

Yeah I don't blame ya with the laptop. It's better to spend a little less money getting it repaired than having to fork out the money for a brand new one. Unless of course the repair costs are ridiculous. Good luck!!!

Oh I'm sure. It's still something unknown and it makes your mind work a little hard because of all the "what ifs". :)

Ugh. I lasted on OK Cupid for 24 hours. It was way too creepy. Plenty of Fish has not yielded ANYTHING. I should probably just delete it, but I'm lazy.

I have been on OK Cupid, and it was okay, there were some creeps, but I met some nice guys on there...then I deleted my account when one of them suggested we meet. It was totally casual and unthreatening, but that's what I do when, I guess, I get confronted with face-to-face meetings....eh.

I met my last ex online. He's a douche, but um, I can't blame that on the internet. :P I've also met maybe one or two other guys for both dates and platonic outings. In some ways I kinda prefer meeting people online, there's like an extra layer of screening you can do. There are some disadvantages too, like people can stretch the truth a bit when hiding behind a computer screen. But generally, I think it's a great tool! :)

Also, your colleagues probably mean well but this sounds kind of weird...? I have friends who want to set me up, but not my co-workers. Then again, I have a smaller office so it might be a different dynamic.

Heh, yeah, I guess I don't work in a very conventional place! It's a very small bookstore, gets quiet sometimes and we are all fairly good friends and pretty close.

I do agree with the whole "screening" thing, and I tend to feel less shy when it's online communication, so yeah, we'll see how it goes...?
