A totally different political thought...

So it occurred to me last night as I was voting, that politicians make fat wads of money. These same politicians get to decide their own pay and vote for their own raises. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but don't most people have their pay and raises set by their employer, and they don't get much input into the process? And is it not also true that these politicians are supposedly "working for the people", or in other words, are OUR employees?

I see a bit of a disparity here. Shouldn't we, the people, get some if not all the input into the salary and raises for these so-called Public servants?

Washington is a very initiative friendly state. I don't suppose there might be any support out there in LJ land for an Initiative that allows us to vote on politicians salaries, and approve any raises that they vote themselves? Heck, we could take the money from their bloated paychecks and put it towards schools. That would be more popular than raising taxes, and who'd actually come out against it?

Just my two cents.
