this is so illogical. I have no excuse.
"I see dead people," Donghae announced one day, walking into the small living room where the rest of the members of Super Junior had gathered after a very long, very tiring day. He stood there expectantly, waiting for the shock and awe he so rightly deserved after such a declaration. He was ignored completely.
Donghae frowned and tried again. "I said--"
"We heard you the first time," said Eunhyuk, not looking away from the video game he was playing against Shindong. He punched a few buttons with determination. "We just don't understand you. Never have, probably never will. I've accepted that."
"I just don't care," said Kangin. He pushed Eunhyuk with his foot, throwing him off balance enough to cause him to hit the wrong button on the controller and allow Shindong to win the game. "Oops."
Shindong raised his hand. "I may not understand him, and I like it that way. I don't want to know." He grabbed the game controller from Eunhyuk's hands and passed it over to Sungmin. Eunhyuk huffed in displeasure and leaned back against the sofa, resting his head on Kibum's knee.
Kyuhyun set his book down carefully and looked around the room. Everyone else refused to meet his eyes. He sighed, then turned to Donghae. "I care. Please, explain what you mean." Kyuhyun didn't see who threw the pillow at his head.
Donghae smiled happily. "Well," he said with all the air of someone who had the best piece of information in the entire world. "Heechul just found out that someone has been using his phone to send love messages to the rest of the group. It was definitely someone in this room. A dead man." When he finished his explanation, Donghae sat down next to Sungmin on the floor and instructed him on how to set Shindong's game character on fire.
"I was wondering about that," mumbled Shiwon to himself.
Sungmin nodded distractedly. "The one I got was weird. Really weird. Even for him."
Hankyung pulled his mobile phone from his back pocket. "I didn't understand the message I got." He leaned closer to Shiwon and showed him the text. "What does this word mean?"
Shiwon's eyes grew impossibly wide. He quickly shut the phone and pushed it as far away from him as he could. "That. I." Shiwon's face paled as he waved his arms around a few times. "That's not. I mean. You shouldn't."
Kyuhyun leaned over to pick up Hankyung's discarded phone. "Huh. I'm surprised you even know this word," he said.
Kibum looked over Kyuhyun's shoulder. "I'm surprised that you know it." Kyuhyun shrugged.
Eeteuk grabbed the phone from Kyuhyun's hands. "Children shouldn't be reading things like that," he said, looking at the text. "I shouldn't even be reading things like that." He looked grim and pocketed the phone. "I wish I hadn't read that."
The room got quiet as those who hadn't seen the message contemplated what it could have possibly said. "Ew," said Shindong at whatever his mind had come up with.
Ryeowook blinked a few times. "The one I got was actually very nice."
"Mine too," said Yehsung. "In its own way."
"Yeah," agreed Eunhyuk. "In a very backward compliment sort of way. But still nice. Except for the part about..." Eunhyuk blushed. "It did sound like Heechul."
"Where is he, anyway?" asked Kangin, looking around the room at the very much alive and not slaughtered group.
"Oh," said Donghae. "I locked him in his room after he found out so that he would have a chance to calm down before he figured a way out and came down here."
There was a moment of silence as everyone let those words sink in. Eeteuk took a deep breath, closed his eyes, and thought that there really was no place like home; Hankyung thought about the good times he'd had with Donghae and how he'd miss him greatly; Shiwon hugged his knees to his chest in a somewhat traumatized manner; Kibum covered his mouth in an attempt to hide his laughter during such a sad moment. Kangin didn't even try. "Oh my god, Donghae," he said.
"Maybe if we hand over Donghae and whoever sent the texts, then Heechul won't, you know." Sungmin made vague hand gestures that likely implied strangulation, death, or maybe hunger. It was hard to tell.
"We don't know who did it," said Ryeowook dejectedly.
"Kangin," said Yehsung. "It's always Kangin."
"Hey!" Kangin yelled. "It wasn't me. I was with Eeteuk when it happened."
"Every time?" asked Eunhyuk suspiciously.
"Yeah, sure. Every time," replied Kangin. "Just ask him."
Eeteuk pushed Kangin away and crossed his arms. "Leave me out of this."
Kangin frowned. "Fine, don't believe me. But I didn't do it and you're all going to let the real criminal get away."
"You know," Shindong started conversationally, "As long as I'm not the one getting blamed, I'm okay with that."
"Same," replied Sungmin. "Yes!" he cried as he finally managed to beat Shindong at their game. Shindong sighed, defeated.
"As long as that's settled I should probably go do leader things. And someone should release Heechul," Eeteuk said wearily. Kangin rubbed his back comfortingly. "Donghae, Kangin, you're coming with me." Kangin stopped rubbing Eeteuk's back and frowned. "Traitor," he said when Eeteuk stood up and head toward the door.
After they left, everyone else had either gone to watch the ensuing fight and possible complete and total breakdown of their fearless leader, gone to bed, or whatever else they could think of to do that would likely cause some kind of trouble for everyone. Kibum sat down on the floor next to Hankyung. They were the only ones who had stayed.
"I saw you," Kibum said.
Hankyung turned to face Kibum, eyes wide and innocent. "What?"
"With Heechul's phone. I saw you. Once yesterday and twice the day before that." He wrapped his arms around Hankyung's shoulders. "You should have told me."
Hankyung smiled and leaned back into Kibum. "Next time," he said.
