idunno, i've heard the singles from the album hundreds of times already and i'm still not seeing what's so fucking impressive about it. i just don't get it, really. axl announced the album 15 years ago after GnR broke up, and back then it seemed to be entirely out of spite, like "hey, you fuckers may be gone, but GnR is Axl Rose, not Axl, Slash, Duff, Tommy, etc." in the 15 years since, Chinese Democracy has just been a punchline to a series of jokes about washed up acts trying to get their shit together. Then, they finally put it out, and all everyone is trying to tell me is that it's good. what i've heard isn't that fucking spectacular. it sounds like the same crap we were rebelling against in the early 90's mixed with every bad rock cliche that's sprung up since. it sounds like an entire generation of people who weren't there in the beginning decided to see what all the fuss was about and accidently turned a steaming pile of crap into a new hit.
couple that with the fact that the only thing i've liked about the new Metallica disc is that they tried to move back to their late 80's sound, and you have a lot of support for my theory that not every band that has a devoted fanbase and several albums in a decade should really stay around for more than that decade. especially if you're Aerosmith.
