here's a bunch of songs i really enjoyed listening to last year, though a lot of them weren't actually released last year. i went youtubing for the videos so i could share them.
Sirens - Dizzee Rascal
dizzee rascal is, for all intents, the king of the Grime scene in the UK, which is what would happen if you took gansta rap and fused it with innovate beats done by grunge noise rockers. if nothing else, it's a hell of a lot more interesting to listen to than 50 cent.

The Regulator - Clutch
Is Mountain Rock a big enough niche to be considered a genre? if so, then there are no better mountain rock bands than Clutch.

Come To Daddy - Dillinger Escape Plan
this is actually a cover of an Aphex Twin tune of the same name, done originally for Irony is a Dead Scene, the short little album they did with Mike Patton. It's surprisingly accurate. kinda wish they'd put more camera on the drummer though, he's amazing. he's perfectly replicating the beat that Aphex Twin put together by chopping, splicing, and rearranging sampled beats. that's somewhat akin to naturally making david lynch movies without even thinking about illicit drugs.

Sucker - Peeping Tom
Mike Patton's latest band project, Peeping Tom, is rotating cast of regulars playing Patton music with a hip hop twist. i'm not sure who all he had for studio work for which songs, since i downloaded it instead of buying it, but the band's cast generally features a regular 5 piece band plus a beatboxer and sometimes a DJ as well. This track features Norah Jones (yes, /that/ Norah Jones) on vocals.

Spicy Spiky - Yellow Machinegun
an all-chick hardcore act from japan! think they're defunct now, it's really hard to tell because all the current websites i've found on the band are entirely in japanese. should be noted that this is the only light and cute song in their catalog.
