I HATE HOW EVERY BROADWAY WEBSITE WENT APESHIT OVER JORDIN'S BROADWAY DEBUT AND FORGOT TO MENTION THAT IT WAS KYLE'S DEBUT TOO.
Yes, there were pictures of him (and only him) at curtain call and after the performance. Broadway.com remembered to mention that Kyle made his debut in In the Heights, but not that it was that night. There are pictures of some fucking Disney Channel star with Jordin, pictures of some reality TV stars with Jordin, pictures of Jordin and her mother, but there are next to no pictures of Kyle.
Basically, everyone's going: "Yay Jordin Sparks!! You're on Broadway now and you're so wonderful and you've got such a nice voice!! ...oh yeah, Kyle Beltran was there too... for Jordin's debut."
And it's just so unfair that I can't stand it. I know stunt casting saves Broadway shows, but I hate how much attention the stars get. Corbin had his face plastered everywhere and I was pretty optimistic about him, and then he was so terrible I wanted to get up onstage, shake him, and yell at him, "You're supposed to be FUNNY!" And he's a better actor than Jordin, so now I'm worried that everyone who's seen her in the role just went in really wanting to like her, so they did.
Also? I get that Jordin's body type is different from the women who have played Nina to date, but that doesn't mean they have to put her in a pretty dress. She's supposed to wear nice but clearly older clothing until the dinner scene, where she dresses up. Now that dress won't look as special. Plus Nina is a poor college student and yeah, I get that poor college students can wear nice clothes, but in theatre the costume is part of the character. It adds to who the character is, so you put the poor college student in casual clothes. You put the sexy hairdresser in short skirts and heels. You put the Rosarios' employees in uniforms. It's common sense here, people.
Whatever. Kyle Beltran is the man, and anyone with a brain knows that. End of story.
dnw sparky nina,
kyle freaking beltran
