Except for a small section where a Dratini is attacking every wild Pokémon he sees while a Feebas cheers him on. Luckily, their trainer is feeling too nostalgic to scold them

All of them. The fish, the birds, the mammals, the rocks... And all the eggs manage to be the same size, somehow.

[ She looks interested in that tidbit, and remembers seeing some of the larger Pokemon others have shown her and wonders... they came from a tiny egg? She nods in vague understanding, though, then regards him carefully. ]

You're... Cecil, right? Roxas told me about you.

[They aaaaall did. Even the six foot long dragon that is currently massacring Bellsprouts.]

Did he, now? Indeed, I am Cecil. Do you happen to be Xion?

[ She nods. Glancing at said dragon for a moment before turning back to him. ]

He told me I should be traveling with you and Pence to the next city.

That would be a good idea. I have an Arcanine who can move from Cherrygrove to Violet in four days. It would save you some time and keep you safe from the cold. I should reach Cherrygrove by Thursday; will you want to leave quickly, or would you prefer to work and explore first?

I'd like to leave quickly, but we should also think about Pence in this, too. I'll be fine with whatever option. [ A beat, and she bows her head a little. ] I'm sorry for the trouble, Cecil.

Yes. This is Flare; I received him as an egg three months ago. He looks rather strong, does he not?

[ Wow. Those eggs must be really special. She nods quickly. ]

Just three months? [ She can only imagine how tiny the Pokemon was before those three months came to pass. ]

Well, he was much smaller when he was a Growlithe. Being that tall is a recent development; he evolved into Arcanine three weeks ago. But Pokémon become stronger much more quickly than humans.

By battling, right?

Yes. They can battle from the moment they are born, and some of them already feel the inclination to do so. [At this, he points at the Dratini.] But the greatest bursts of strength come from evolution, and not all of those are caused by battling.

There are other methods?

[puppet_paladin]

[He nods.] Some species, such as Growlithes, evolve by touching special stones. Others, like Cleffa, do so if they are kept happy for an extended period of time. But evolution through combat is the most common method.
