Во время выборов 2016 российские хакеры взломали не только DNC (Democratic National Committee), но DCCC (Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee). С помощью слива взломанной почты DCCC они оказали влияние на голосование в Конгресс, что могло сдвинуть партийный баланс. Если ожидалось, что победит Клинтон, имело смысл вставлять ей палки в колеса, поддерживая противоположную партию в Конгрессе.

Эта часть истории ускользнула от внимания прессы, но пробелы начинают понемногу заполняться. New York Times писала об этом в декабре:

The impact of the information released by the hackers on candidates like Ms. Taddeo in Florida and others in nearly a dozen House races around the country was largely lost in the focus on the hacking attacks against the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign. But this untold story underscores the effect the Russian operation had on the American electoral system.

The hacking spree that upended the presidential election wasn’t limited to Democratic National Committee memos and Clinton-aide emails posted on websites. The hacker also privately sent Democratic voter-turnout analyses to a Republican political operative in Florida named Aaron Nevins. Learning that hacker “Guccifer 2.0” had tapped into a Democratic committee that helps House candidates, Mr. Nevins wrote to the hacker to say: “Feel free to send any Florida based information.”
