В своей речи на CPAC Трамп продолжил войну с прессой:

And I want you all to know we are fighting the fake news. It's fake. Phony. Fake. A few days ago I called the fake news the enemy of the people, and they are. They are the enemy of the people. Because they have no sources, they just make them up when there are none. I saw one story recently where they said nine people have confirmed. There are no nine people. I don't believe there was one or two people. Nine people. And I said give me a break because I know the people. I know who they talked to. There were no nine people. But they say nine people. And somebody reads it and they say, oh, nine people, they have nine sources. They make up sources.

Говоря про сообщение с девятью источниками, он очевидно имел в виду статью в Washington Post, которая в конце концов привела к отставке генерала Флинна. Марти Бэрон, легендарный главный редактор Washington Post, в ответ на нападки Трампа заявил: "“Everything we published regarding Gen. Flynn was true, as confirmed by subsequent events and on-the-record statements from administration officials themselves. The story led directly to the general’s dismissal as national security adviser. Calling press reports fake doesn’t make them so.”



Нападая на Washington Post, Трамп пока что не называл газету по имени. Более явными были его нападки на New York Times и CNN - два СМИ, которые со ссылкой на анонимные источники сообщили о фактах регулярных контактов между людьми Трампа и российскими спецслужбами во время избирательной кампании.

FAKE NEWS media knowingly doesn't tell the truth. A great danger to our country. The failing @nytimes has become a joke. Likewise @CNN. Sad!

Новая статья в Washington Post повествует о том, что в попытках заткнуть истории в прессе о связях людей Трампа с российскими спецслужбами Белый дом (в лице Ринса Прибуса) давил не только на ФБР и руководителей разведки, но и на республиканских лидеров в комиссиях по разведки обеих палат Конгресса. Причём те частично подчинились. Такое давление не только по сути преступно, но и компроментирует независимость расследования.

Между тем большинство американцев, согласно опросу NBC/WSJ, заинтересованы в таком расследовании.
