The Good Son

So this morning brought good news. The Sleepers man had pooped, which given the fact that he couldn't get food down without vomiting, this was like Christmas. Anyway, he really wanted to eat this morning, but about half an hour after nibbling at food he vomited. Whatever was aggravating his stomach was still there.

Later in the morning they took more x-rays and gave him a gut full of barium so they could get contrast ones. The doctor called about 6pm to let me know that he was doing pretty well and the barium showed no surgical obstructions. (Whew) He has a rather large fecal mass, probably impacted, in his upper colon, but generally this is a case for medical and not surgical treatment. The mass was where the colon loops back up towards the stomach, so it was probably putting pressure on it, causing him to vomit. The dehydration only made matters worse.

Right now they are going to give him more fluids, some strong laxatives, tagament for his tummy, and treat him medically at least through tomorrow. He's going to be re-evaluated tomorrow afternoon just in case things haven't moved. Otherwise things are looking up for the little guy.
