So this morning I had an appointment with my pre-vet advisor. I had a ton of questions about the vet tech program here at State. She was VERY helpful and I have decided that I do in fact want to be a vet tech. I will not have to pay for graduate school and I can potentially graduate at the end of my senior year. I think I have to drop outa Briggs, but that's ok cuz the vet tech classes are gonna be really small so it will make it a smooth transition. The average class size is 40-50 people.
Vet techs get paid a lot less, but there is a class encorporated in the program that teaches you how to budget your money. I can support myself at least so it's ok. It is really what I want to do because they have more interaction with the animals and the patients. Veterinarians are suppose to only diagnose the patient, perscribe a treatment plan, and perform surgery. Vet techs do everything else from dental work to physical therapy to teaching the owner how to give pills or change bandages...it's what I really want to do. Sure, I won't have a fancy DVM degree, but that's ok with me.
Also, my friend Julie found this really cool horse therapy riding center. Disabled kids go and ride horses there. It strengthens their balance skills and their muscles. They need a lot of volunteers, so next year we are gonna go help them out. I'm so excited. I have always wanted to start working with horses again...I bet none of you knew that I use to take riding lesson...I loved it! Costs too much though..anyway what is really cool about volunteering there besides working with horses and seeing the changes in disabled kids, it that if you volunteer for over 20 hours they pay you back by letting you ride the horses for free. Also they plan special volunteer ride days and we get to go ride in the woods. I can't wait...wish there was one near saginaw....
Oh I gotta go I have a class to get to!
