I had this crazy notion yesterday night when I was going home. Lately, I've been looking around showflats and boy, are they damn nice or what? How nice it is to own a place of your own, to stay with your loved one, to enjoy your own privacy, and... to hold parties every week at your place!!! lol ( Read more... )

Don’t forget about the condo maintenance fee (350 - 400 a month), utilities bill, if they wanna repair say the pool you’ll need to pay too. Also, don’t forget the part on renovation. Yes, for condos, most things are already build, still you need to set aside about $20K, coz things like lighting, additional build in cabinets etc. Furnishing the house will cost you another 25k.

Sharing is not a good option coz if something goes wrong and 1 party wanna “force” sell the place, do you have the cash to buy his half?

With so much commitment, do you have money to last you for at least a year if you are jobless for whatever reasons. This money should cover your daily expenses including the loan repayment amount.

Yes, no doubt condo show flats are nice. However, it’s not really practical to judge a place just by looking at these show flats. The developer usually uses the best and latest design in furnishing (read - EXPENSIVE) so that the place looks absolutely beautiful. May not have the resources to build something like them. Next time you go to a show flat, ask them how much is the reno.

Lastly, having debt (ie the huge housing loan) is always not healthy financially.

Ask me la…I expert in planning in this area.

ya man... someone reminded me about the $300/mth utilities bills and the lump sum renovation fee somewhere down the road.

the sharing part I agree with you, that's why I'm not even considering a 'Friends' thingy. I've already a few of my friends who had such things happened on them already
