A recent study indicates that the human Y chromosome is not in the process of disappearing, as earlier research had suggested. Comparisons between the human genome and the recently decoded chimpanzee genome indicate the Y chromosome is more nearly identical between the two species than any other chromosomes. This suggests that the Y chromosome, which makes a man a man and not a woman, has not changed since our ancestors came down from the trees. Few, if any, women are surprised by the findings.
