The end of Summer

Aug 18, 2005 13:11

Wow! I haven't posted in nearly two months. How about that.

I've actually done some pretty cool stuff these past two months, but I also managed to avoid the computer for most of it also. This is pretty shocking if you ever visited me in my room last year, when I was permanently glued to my dorm chair in front of my dorm desk. I feel almost proud of myself.

I have been ebaying up a storm though. I have a feedback score of 23, and most of those points are for selling! (sorry non-ebayers for the confusing TECHNICAL JARGON) I haven't sold any big-ticket items, but mostly books and other things I just want to get rid of to lighten the load a bit.

In late june I purchased a "lot" of 27 hardcover books by my favorite author of the moment, Mercedes Lackey. Those who are familiar with her, probably like her, so that's good. Those who aren't...well if I told you what she wrote it would reveal just how big a nerd I am. So I won't. Anyway, I was thrilled because I got 27 books, all in like-new condition, only 5 of which I had read before, for about $100. That works out to about $3 a book - so it was a great deal. I've been reading them (carefully) and then re-selling them on ebay individually. It works out because they are in fairly high demand, so as long as I set my starting price at 2.99, I'll at least make my money back, and so far every one has sold. I've been making good time on them too - I think I have about 10 or 15 left.

Ryan and I also had Mike D and Jill up for the weekend which was awesome, and this past weekend we went to Mike D's beach house in Eastham for a day and a half of fun in the sun (or sunstroke in my case - but I bounced back fast!), building sand castles, and eating huge ice cream sundaes (otherwise known as Vermonsters at ben & jerry's). A slightly more detailed account, as well as a weird picture of me and ryan can be found at www.mikedidonato.com. Next week we might go see Mike D at the house of Rock in Conneticut on our way to or from IKea.

I quit my job last thursday - actually quit. Last monday I submitted a 2-week notice, citing TODAY august 18th as my last day at work. But by thursday I was just thinking how much I didn't want to come back to work. At the prompting of the Schenks, and also my coworkers (It sucks to work at the Coast Guard Exchange on otis air base, by the way) I just told my supervisor, the seemingly innocent but evil Claudette that "I need to be at school sooner than I thought" (I got this great line from Ryan's mom) and that I wouldn't be coming back next week. At all. She was pissed, but that's all the better since I had learned a few days prior that even though she had been acting really nice to me the whole summer, apparently she was "overjoyed" when she heard I was giving my two weeks, would frequently say nasty things about me while I was on break, and that she said "I don't think she'll be coming back to work here next summer". Yeah well screw you claudette, at least I won't be working in the same dead-end job as a cashier at the Exchange for the next 30 years of my life. (I hope.)

Well I won't leave it on such a bitter note - next week we (myself, ryan and tim) are moving into the new apartment, which I'm actually looking forward to - school also starts next week, which always brings mixed feelings, but I think it will be ok. I am really excited to see all the clarkies! enjoy the rest of your summer - I know I will!
