Yay for new cameras! I am surprised you're getting a Nikon though... figured you'd go for the Canon equivalent, since you've always been a Canon girl. ; ) But the D70s is awesome and you won't regret it one bit.

I hope you're not buying it from Abe's of Maine though... they are BIG TIME con artists. : (

B&H (bhphotovideo.com) is where I get all my gear. They are safe and reputable.

I am a canon girl.... however all of my equipment is so old that I need to buy everything new. And then after testing out/comparing the digital rebel to the d70 I like the controls on the d70 better. It is easier to change the shutter speed/apature, and since I'm basically a manual girl I saw that as a definte necessity!
Never fear, I will not abandon my canon ae-1, she will always be my baby.

So you hear bad things about abes? Wow, I've heard some pretty good things about them. Yeah, I was thinking b&h, then I called around portland and they can match it!!! I always go to PhotoMarket and they can match b&h's price, plus $50 off if I buy $100 more, which I will no doubt, since I have nothing. So I'm pretty excited about that. And I trust those guys, I've been going there for about 3 years now, and they know me by name. And in this case if I have a question I can go right to the source. Sweet :)

I'll update tonight with some shots when I buy it!

Yeah, the problem with Abe's is that they pay people to write "good" reviews about them, and they sue people who write bad (honest) reviews about them. They are infamous for their bait & switch tactics, and they always try to sell you a zillion dollars worth of accessories that you don't need.

PhotoMarket is a good bet. You can't go wrong with them. And at least you can easily return something if it's defective.

One thing I find essential in a camera is a spot meter. The Digital Rebel doesn't have one, but all of the Nikons do. Other than that, it's mostly personal preference in terms of which one feels better in your hands, whether or not you already have a ton of Canon or Nikon AF lenses, etc.

You will love your new Nikon. : )

Hmm, intersting........ that is good to know. Evil evil people, and they have the word maine in their name. That is just a disgrace!
Thanks so much, I'm pretty excited, heading out quite soon!

Yeah, they originally had a shop in OOB back in the early '80s. And OOB wasn't exactly a hotbed of honesty and integrity in those days. They later moved to NY, where they remain today. Of the hundreds of camera shops in NYC (especially Brooklyn), the general consensus is that B&H and Adorama are the only two that aren't scam artists.
