Tonight I start my research project on The Christian Faith and it's Relevance to War and Peace. Actually the research started a couple days ago, but I've seem to have misplaced my notes. So I start over. I am going to base my research and conclusions, (if a conclusion is even possible on a topic such as this) on primarily the New Testament. I will have some outside sources and quotes as well, but for the believer one must begin and end with the Word. It is where we find truth, not opinion. Of course what I end up writing will be opinion based on what I read and interpret. I am not a Bible scholar nor am I totally unbiased. However cheesy this comes across, my desire is to become more Christ-like. How is that possible if we revolve our lives around opinions, CNN, and peers and never Christ's words and deeds?
Anyways. Why am I going to focus on the New Testament? Because. Because I can. Ha ha. Ok, here's why. Because I think the "rules of engagement" if you will, changed with the coming of Christ. We all know of the ferocious battles which occurred, the tens of thousands if not millions of persons (soldier and civilians) killed, and God telling kings such as David to go do battle with so and so. With Christ's coming we begin a new chapter, where we're told to "love your enemies". Where grace, love and mercy are encouraged if not straight up commanded.
"War may sometimes be a necessary evil.
But no matter how necessary, it is always an evil, never a good.
We will not learn how to live together in peace by killing each other's children."
