The Bittersweet Weekend Adventures

Nov 22, 2006 00:29

Well, I was going to do this last night when I got home, but I decided that I was too damn tired (even though my hands were shaking from excessive caffeine consumption. 1 RockStar+2 Full Throttles+1 Giant Cup of Super Strong Coffee+1 relatively empty stomach= me getting the shakes and jitters until 2am when I finally felt my heartrate decrease to the point I could actually fall asleep. Yeah, I've learned my limits.)
So anyway, I just got home from work a bit ago, and decided it was time to make this update happen.

After an extremely stressful Thursday night closing shift, I got up Friday afternoon, did the whole cashing paycheck thing, and started out on the road home to Henderson. Completely uneventful 6 hour drive, but that's the way uh-huh uh-huh I like em. Got home to have dinner with my parents (ah sweet homecooked meals) and then went out to Evansville to have a few drinks with Tara, Shawna, Josh, Mandi, Joe, and Jeni. It was a great time that reminded me of the old days when I still lived there. I got a lawngnome as a part(y)ing gift that has already fit well into our apartment decor. Crashed a USI cast party and met some of Jeni's friends. One of whom tackled me when she found out I played Sweeney Todd (Flash Forward- Found out that this girl was actually my girlfriend's best friend in high school- SMALL WORLD). Went home.

Saturday - Slept in and loved it. Woke up and went to see my Dad at the gallery. Had lunch with my parents and then got out of town and headed down to Murray. Got there, and met up with Preston and he and I went and got a pitcher at Vitello's and just generally shot the shit. After the pitcher, he and I went over to the theatre to see Damn Yankees! It was a small affair, but we couldn't have had more fun. Then we swung by the Sig Ep house to see Fox, Green, and Muncie and then headed home.

Sunday - So I got home to another homecooked meal and the company of my parents and my gran and aunt. They caught me up on town gossip and goings on as elderly loved ones generally do, and I enjoyed it. All this, and they send me home with tons of food! So Sunday was definitely a happy day. After watching Sweeney Todd on DVD with my parents, I headed to bed.

Monday - Woke up relatively early, and started about the routine of getting back home. It usually takes a while, and this time was no different. After going to help my dad with a few things down at the gallery, he and I sat and talked for a while like we always do (always one of the highlights of my trips home) and then I swung by Planters to get some good coffee (always a must) and talked to Emily and Megan for a bit and then decided it was time to get the heck outta Dodge. But first, I needed to see some more family. I went to Evansville and saw my grandma and grandpa and caught up with them for a few hours and got some chocolate moonpies (YUM) for the road. Then I went and met up with Anthony and we had lunch at LoneStar and did the same thing we've done since high school, acted like jackasses and enjoyed the hell out of it. After lunch, I went with him to Bridal Warehouse to get fitted for the tux for his and Adrienne's wedding in March. Made one last trip to the mall to say goodbye to the folks and see Tara, Lizz and Victoria before departing for Chicago. Thus 6 hours later, and waaaaaay too many energy drink later, I got home safe and sound. And that, was my weekend.

I know I didn't get to see EVERYONE I wanted to, but I got to see enough to make me quite happy, and that was more than enough.

Now, judging by the subject line, you may be asking, "But Chris, where is the bitter to the sweet?" Well, that part comes now. The reason that it was bittersweet is because I won't be able to go home again in 2006. It'll be next year before I get back there. Thanksgiving (THANKFULLY) won't be too bad away from home because I'm going to spend it with my cousins in Chicago and their family, so I won't be all sad bastard lonesome for Thanksgiving. Christmas, however, is another story. I have never in my life spent Christmas away from home. I don't know how my sister did it, but I have a feeling it's going to be a bitch. Probably me, some of the food I was sent home with and whoever has nobody to spend it with. I think I'll organize another Orphans holiday, like Easter. An Orphans Christmas, now there's a plan. So yeah, there's the bitter and the sweet. But hey, I'll make it, I always do. And I have New Years to look forward to. It will be the one year mark of Bill and I's pact to move to Chicago and begin "the year of oos". And hopefully, Katie will also be able to make it up here, considering she was there for the pact, I feel that ceremonially, it's only right that she be here too, plus- nobody likes to spend New Years alone.

Goodnight everyone, I hope that all of you have a Happy Thanksgiving, and that if you, like me, work retail, you survive Black Friday with minor bumps and bruises and many happy sales.

I love you all more than you can ever imagine.

me

on a lighter note- Chopping Mall may very well be a cinematic disasterpiece, but by God I'll always love it because of the girl I watched it with the very first time.

RANDOM LYRICAL ATTACK!

"When I watch you, I wanna do you right where you're standing (yeah)
Right on the foyer, on this dark day, right in plain view (oh yeah)
Of the whole ghetto. The boots stomp meadows, but we ignore that (yeah)
You're lovely, baby. This war is crazy. I won't let you down (Oh no no)"
