so, I figured it out. art is another word for creativity... or more specifically, people who are creative are identified as artists. that is why good scientists and mathematicians fit into the category of artist as opposed to some dry business or something... their work is creative. by creativity I mean it is innovative. according to Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary innovative means " being or producing something like nothing done or experienced or created before." thus, art.
this, of course, makes perfect sense.

I am doing well, still unclear [on my future] but I think I have decided definitively to move to Portland, OR. I suppose I should make a pros and cons list. I did only decide this today and before that I was positive I was going to stay in SR and go to the JC for another semester... its amazing to me how quickly one can change their mind. I wish the things holding me back did not have such a strong grasp on my subconscious [etc].

I also have come to the realization that most people are quite willing to sell their soul; then, after they have done something they know they shouldn't have, for money or fame, they feel guilty. guilt, I think, is an epidemic. most people who are guilty do not realize why they are guilty... they do not take the time to notice that when you do actions inconsistent with your values, you feel guilt. I do think though, that guilt is merely a side effect of a larger problem. a false idea of what is valuable is what causes a person to do things they feel they shouldn't. the specific one I am thinking of is the need for fame, recognition and money. no offense to anyone who values those things but from my perspective that seems like the most irrelevant thing I could possibly value... why should I care if my name is in a book or on a plaque or if I can afford a luxury car... why would I ever want that? are those things worth having?
