Jeremy Michael Ward - Rest In Peace

May 28, 2003 22:58

The members, family and friends of The Mars Volta were shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of Mars Volta band member Jeremy Ward. Ward, 27, was found dead in his Los Angeles home by his roommate on the evening of Sunday, May 25. The cause of death has yet to be determined pending autopsy.
Ward served as sound manipulator for The Mars Volta, working on every one of their recordings and live shows. The band commented on this loss as follows:

"We have collaborated with Jeremy for the past 10 years. He was the driving force of Defacto, and an integral part of The Mars Volta, who often went unnoticed because he chose to perform offstage. In addition to music, Jeremy was an incredibly talented writer and painter.

We are devastated by the loss, but know that Jeremy will continue to be with us in spirit at every show and during the making of every record."

Jeremy Ward, a member of The Mars Volta known as the guy who did "everything else" including co-writing lyrics with Cedric, died today.

From noizEwater:

It was the first week of October and the 3rd night I was gonna see Mars Volta. My friends and I were already late driving from OC to SD and didnt have tickets. I was frantic cause the venue was sold out too.

I spotted Jeremy, so I went up to him and he'd remembered me from the last couple of days. I told him that my friends and I had driven down and didnt have tickets. He replied that that sucked and that he was sorry, that and to buy tickets next time, in a joking fashion.

I told him it was cool, that I hoped he had a good show and that we'd be listening in from outside. 2 songs into TMV's a security guard came to the front door. He asked me how many people I was with so I gathered my "posse". He said that they'd just released some tickets. So we paid and got in.

That saturday after the SD show TMV where playing in Irvine at TANP. I saw Jeremy walkin around and I went up to say hello really quickly. He asked me if I'd gotten in ok. To which I said yea and asked him how he knew I'd gotten in. He replied he'd talked to the promoter about lettin me in for free and selling my other 3 friends tickets to the show. But I guess like most promoters, he just wanted to make a few more bucks. I didnt know Jeremy was behind that. I thanked him and told him I had to pay to get in but I didnt mind paying though. It was still a good show.

I've never told anyone this story to anyone, including the friends that where with me cause it made me feel special that this guy who doesnt even know me would even consider helping me out. I dont know him, or claim to know him. But I do know that the act of consideration he showed for us was very much appreciated and solidified my admiration even more to a band that I admire.

This is bad... I dont really know what to say. :(
